    DeWint House
    The DeWint house was built on 1700 owned by Patriot Johannes DeWint. George Washington stayed at the house on August 8 to 24, 1780. Washington was examining a fort system on the Hudson. George Washington came again to DeWint on September 28 to October 7, 1780 to discuss the trial of Major John Andre the British Spy.

    The stamp act was created on March 22, 1765 The stamp act was made so that British could cover up the debt from the 7 year war with France. The colonists had to pay tax for newspapers, legal documents, playing cards, and etc. The colonists opposed the stamp act because they thought it invaded rights as British citizens.

    The Townshend act happened on June 29, 1767. The act placed new laws like taxes to gain control of America. The colonist were angry because the Townshend act had new laws that were very similar to the stamp act. The colonists protested British goods so that parliament could repeal the act.

    The Boston Massacre happened on March 5, 1770. People living in Boston Massachusetts were enraged by British troops arriving at their city to impose taxation. Patriots attacked the British which caused the soldiers to shoot and kill several people. The first African American Crispus Attucks , died in the revolutionary war. The Boston Massacre helped bring the colonies against Britain.

    The Boston Tea Party was a protest led by Samuel Adam that happened on December 16, 1773. American colonists were annoyed and angry about taxation. Protesters threw 342 chests of tea imported from India. This event showed colonists to stand up for their rights and was the first major defence to the British rule over colonists.

    Lexington and Concord battle occurred on April 19, 1775. The British wanted to capture John Hancock and Samuel Adams. They also wanted to destroy the Americans store of weapons and bullets. Paul Revere alerted the colonists what was going to happen so they could get ready. The British won the battle. Lexington and Concord was the start of the revolutionary war.

    The Bunker Hill battle happened on June 17,1775. British tried to control the city and valuable sea ports, so they decided to take over Bunker hill and Breed's hill. Americans did not like this, so they defended the hills. British defeated the Americans at Bunker hill. Bunker hill helped Inexperienced colonel forces a confidence to stand up to British army.

    The battle of Quebec happened on December 31, 1775. General Philip Schuyler wanted to take over Canada. He wanted to take over Canada, so that America can gain support from anti British, among the French Canadians who lived there. Once the colonist arrived at Quebec, there was British defenders waiting for the Americans to arrive. The British won the battle.

    On December 25, 1776 Washington and 2400 men crossed the Delaware river on their way to attack the Hessian Garrison army of 1500. George Washington's plan was to attack the British on Christmas night. George Washington and his army had to cross the Delaware river through three separate river ways.

Charles Lee, America's general, attacked the British, but was forced to retreat until Washington came with the rest of the army. The British won the battle but research says that America claimed victory due to colonists taking over the land when the British left. The Monmouth battle was the longest one day battle of the revolutionary war.

    The Baylor’s Massacre on September 27, 1778 was an British ambush to provoke George Washington into battle. General Charles Gray prepared his 650 troops to attack 100 patriot men. This cruel fight had killed 15 patriots and a great number of colonists became imprisoned by the British rule. The Baylor’s Massacre event had more people choose the patriot side.

    The execution of Major John Andre was on October 2, 1780. John Andre, a British officer, was spying on the Continental army with Benedict Arnold. John Andre was captured by patriots who found papers that made him culpable.George Washington and head board members found John Andre guilty and hung him.

General George Washington led the battle against the British General Lord Charles Cornwallis. The British General surrendered to George Washington due to the British trapped at Yorktown

    The treaty of Paris happened on September 3, 1783. The treaty with Paris ended the war from Britain. The treaty was signed by Adams, Jay, and Franklin at the Hotel d’York in Paris.The Treaty of Paris officially marked the United States as an independent nation.
