French & Indian War Starts
The Colonists wanted to expand westward. Both English and British people attempted to settle on land around the Ohio River Valley. The colonists thought that this war was important to get the land they wanted. They wanted the land badly because thats what they come over for. In 1757 the war turned in the British's favor. -
Battle of Quebec
In canada people were taught about this battle in schools. They were taught about it because it would decide who would rule over them. the colonists like these battles because they got more land that they could settle. -
French & Indian War Ends
The Fench lost the land to North America. The Colonists expanded westward onto the newly gained land. The French people were not allowed ont he land anymore. The colonists didn't like it. They were very uneasy about the idea. They didn't like it because of disputes over the following frontier policy. They were mad that they couldn't settle the new land. The colonists also like paying the war's expenses. -
Proclamation of 1763
The collonists didn't like this action at all. It kept them off of the land they earned. -
The Sugar Act
This act put a tax of 3 cent on sugar. It also made taxes on coffee, indigo, and wine go up. This act also banned the importation of rum and wines from other countries. The colonists didn't have any say in this act. The colonists were very upset that they didn't get a voice on this problem. They didn't like being controlled by the British. This was the star of the colonists fight for representation in all acts and other governmental issues in the colonies. -
The Quartering Act
The British angered the colonists even further with this act. This act made the colonists provide housing and supplies for the British soldiers. They also had to give the troops money. The only reason the people fallowed this law was because the troops they were providing for were protecting them. -
Stamp Act Congress
Only 9 of the colonies delegates showed up. The colonists didn't think they could work out a solution civilly. -
The Stamp Act
The colonists start riots. They say that if they are going to have stamps then they want to be repressentedd. They were stoping inports and ecports. They would not take any imports from British, which is called a boycott. -
Declaratory Act
The colonists din't really pay attention to this act because they were celebrating the repeal of the stamp act. They shouldn't have bean so happy because the repealing made parliament harden their enforcing of the declaratory act. -
Townshed Act
The colonists didn't like this act because, it made them pay extra because the people in Britain didn't want to pay for. This act stopped the British from paying a land tax and the colonists had to make up the difference in the income. -
Boston Massacre
The colonists didn't like that this happened. It to the lives of 5 of their own people. This happened because the tension between the colonists and the British had started snowballing. It just got worse and worse. The British solders started firing because they were hit with snowballs. This all started when the British government stated trying to increase their rule over the colonists. This shooting helped bring the colonists together. They worked better together after it. -
The Battle at Lexington and Concord
The colonists didn't like these battles. They thought that it was just the excuses they needed to start the war for their independence. They also thought that the british was being out of line when they first fired shots on the people during these battles.
