Some colonists hurled a cargo of British Tea into the harbor to protest taxes on Tea. -
The Battle of Lexington
Tensions between the colonists and British finally erupted into war. This war became known as the American Revolution. The continental congress met again to form an army and named George Washington as its commander. -
Deceleration of Independence
The second continental congress met and voted to to declare independence from Britain. Thomas Jefferson was the main author. -
The Battle of Saratoga
This was the turning point in The Revolutionary War. -
British surrender at Yorktown, Virginia
The British general surrendered his troops. General brought 8,000 troops to Yorktown. -
Constitutional Convention
Delegates from five states called for a convention to discuss posible improvements to the Articles of Confederation. -
Ratification of the U.S Constitution
It was adopted and signed in September of 1787.
