    The French and Indian War

    The colonists and Britain fought for control of the Ohio River Valley against the French and the Indians. It is significant because it gave the colonists control of more land in North America.

    Colonial Taxation

    Series of taxes were placed on colonists to help lower Britain's war debt. Made colonists angry because they were being taxed without representatives in Parliament to vote on the taxes.
  • The Boston Massacre

    British soldiers controlling a riot panicked and fired upon colonists killing five of them. This enraged the colonists because they claimed they did nothing to anger the soldiers even though they threw rocks at them.
  • Intolerable Acts

    Parliament passed laws to punish colonists for the dumping of tea in the Boston Harbor. Angered colonists further building up to the final string snapping that would send the colonists over the edge.
  • First Continental Congress

    Leaders from each of the came together to talk about making peace with Britain. Important because it was the first sign of teamwork between the colonies.

    First two battles between the Continental Army and the British.
    Important because it was the first battle for independence against Great Britain.

    Battle that the British won against the Americans although they suffered many losses. Important because it lit a fire under the Americans and motivated them.

    Decision to form an army is made in Philadelphia. Sinificant because one of the first stps in American Revolution.

    Battle won by the British. Significant because it gave Britain control of New York.
  • Common Sense Written

    Writen by Thomas Paine. Convinced and motivated people to revolt against Britain. Significant because inspired people to fight.
  • Declaraton of Independence

    Announced that the colonies were declaring independence from Britain. Significant because officially started the revolution.
  • Battles of Trenton and Princeton

    Sneak attacks that General Washington launched upon the British. Both battle were won by the Americans. Significant because it turned the tables on the British.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    The British won but suffered many losses. Significant because helped convince French to side with the colonists.
  • Winter in Valley Forge

    Place where General Washington and his men camped out the harsh winter. Some training was able to happen but there were many shortages. Showed strength and perserverance of the men.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    Americans won by making the British surrender after surrounding them with the help of their french allies. Significant because it was another big victory that started to wrap up the war.
  • Battle of Monmouth

    A battle won by the continental army in New Jersey. Significant because it allowed the British to continue to New York.
  • Treaty of Paris

    When signed officially ended the war between the colonists and Britain. Signifcant because made Britain recognize America as an independent country.
