  • Period: to

    French and Indian War

    This was a war between the French and British over the land north of the American colonies. It ended up doubling British debts, forcing them to tax the Americans and instate a bunch of acts, eventually leading to the Americans declaring war against the British
  • Sugar Act

    This was an act that taxed sugar and molasses, making it harder for the colonists to make rum, which angered them.
  • Stamp Act

    This was where the Colonists first got mad because of "Taxation without Representation". This taxed all official documents, so in this time period, basically everything.
  • The Quartering Act

    This act forced colonists to house British troops, and give them supplies like food, water, and other things.
  • Boston Massacre

    On this day, five Colonists were killed, was called a "Massacre" to get the Colonists riled up and mad at Great Britain.
  • Tea Act

    This act taxed tea, and led to the boston tea party.
  • Boston Tea Party

    A million dollars worth of tea is thrown into Boston Harbor by the Sons of Liberty dressed up as Indians in protest to the Tea Act.
  • Boston Port Act

    This was an act to punish everyone in the settlement of Boston for the Boston Tea Party.
  • Patrick Henry Gives his "Give me Liberty" Speech

    This was one of the most well-known speeches, given by Patrick Henry to try to free Virginia from British rule
  • Battle of Lexington & Concord

    This was the start of the "war" phase. Over 200 British redcoats killed, and less than 90 Colonists died.
  • Battle of Ticonderoga

    This battle showed France that the colonists actually had a chance, making them the colonists' allies.
  • George Washington is named Commander in Chief

    On this day, George Washington is donned the title "Commander in Chief".
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    This was considered a "turning point" in the war, a "morale boost", but they lost the battle... MAKES NO SENSE WHATSOEVER, BUT OK!

    Common Sense by Thomas Paine is the first document openly asking for independence from England.
  • Declaration of Independence Signed

    On this day, the declaration of INDEPENDENCE was signed, declaring our independence from Great Britain.

    This was the last battle in Colonial America, but this was not the end of the war, there were still naval battles and battles overseas.
