    Proclamation of 1763
    The Proclamation of 1763 prevented colonists from traveling West of the Appalachian Mountains in order to reform peace with Native Americans. However, this was ineffectual because there was no enforcement and colonists had already claimed land further West.

    The Stamp Act was a direct tax Parliament created that must be paid in order to receive the right to print. It was the first internal tax in the colonies.

    The Boston Massacre was an event in which British soldiers were being harassed by a group of patriots and the British soldiers shot and killed 5 patriots. The British ended all taxes except on tea as a result.
  • Boston Tea Party

    The Boston Tea Party was a revolt on Parliament due to tea taxes led by a group of Patriots. The group of Patriots dressed up as Native Americans and dumped hundreds of pounds of tea leaves into the Boston Harbor.
  • First Continental Congress Meets

    First Continental Congress Meets
    A meeting of representatives from the 13 colonies that ultimately became the United States. The plan was to unite as one power against Britain, instead of sticking to their own individual states. They also called for boycotts for anything associated with Britain.

    The Battles at Lexington and Concord were the first of the Revolutionary War. Although it was not a true battle and fought with militia instead of actual soldiers, it was the first true conflict between The Colonies and Britain.

    The Battle of Bunker Hill was a battle for Breed's Hill outside of Boston in which Britain won, but suffered far more casualties than the Patriots. It was the deadliest battle of the Revolutionary War.

    The Olive Branch Petition was the final attempted peaceful negotiation from the Colonies to Britain. King George rejected this petition and it caused for backlash from the Colonies.

    Common Sense was a pamphlet handed out on the streets and it called for independence from Great Britain. He branded his ideas as "common sense" and many colonists picked up on his ideas and shared them with Thomas Paine after reading his pamphlet.
  • Declaration of Independence

    Thomas Jefferson drafted the Declaration of Independence and stated that people have basic rights that cannot be taken away by government. He also stated that the people under government have a right to rebel against poor leadership.
