End of French and Indian War
British won against the French and the Treaty of Paris was established leaving the British in debt. Therefore the British taxed the colonies without the permisiion of the colonist Goverment. -
Sugar Act
The Sugar act is colonial merchants had been required to pay a tax of six pence per gallon on the important of foreign sugar. But beacuse of corruption they mostley evaded the taxes and undercut the intention of the tax. -
Stamp Act
This tax was passed by British Parliament and it imposed on all colonists to pay a tax on every peice of printed paper they used. Such as Ship's papers, Legal documents, licenses, newspapers, other publications, and playing cards. -
Quartering Act
A Parliament enacted them to order local goverments of the American colonies to provide the British soldiers to aloud them to live in any colonist house and that person must clean for them and also feed them. -
Colonial protests
Tax resistance among the colonists took three forms: intellectual protest,economis boycotts, and violent intimidation. These protests caused British to back down. Colonial leaders wrote pamphelts, drafted resolutions, gave speeches and sermons to persuade colonists to defy the new taxes. -
Liberty ship
A ship that belonged to John Hancock called Liberty was seized by customs officers. This started riots in the streets of Boston. -
Boston Massacre
The Boston massacre was a date in which several british soldiers killed a few colonists. The colonists were throwing snowballs with rocks in them and and sticks when the soldiers opened fire. -
Boston Tea Party
The Boston tea party was a form of political protesting against the Tea act. Colonists infiltrated a ship with tea from east india company and they went on to throw the tea overboard. -
The Intolerable Acts
The Intolerable acts were a set of laws decided upon by British parliament. These laws were created to punish the colonists for the Boston tea party. -
Battle of Lexington and Concord
1st battle that officially started the American revolution. British troops marched from Boston to Concord to seize arms cache. A confrontation started on the town green after Paul Revere and others warned the militia of the british.
