French and Indian War ends
England defeated France and Native Americans. British needed money after the war so they thought the colonists should pay their fair share. -
Stamp Act
The British needed money after the French and Indian War. They taxed newspapers and pamphlets. -
Boston Massacre
Colonists threw stones and snowballs at British soldiers. They then opened fire and killed five colonists. -
Boston Tea Perty
Parliament had added tax to tea. A bunch of colonists then took a recently arrived cargo container of British tea and threw it into the harbor. -
Tea Act
This act allowed company to ship tea directly to the colonies with landing it in England first. -
Coercive/Intolerable Acts
Due to the events of the Boston Tea Party, the British Parliament passed four laws to punish the colony of Massachusetts Bay. -
First Continental Congress
When Parliament wouldn't listen representatives from 12 colonies came together in Philadelphia and discussed what their response should be to Britain's harsh moves against Massachusetts. -
Lexington and Concord
The colonists and British were the ones taking part in this battle. This lead the Second Continental Congress to met and set up a Continental Army lead by George Washington. -
Second Continental Congress
This meeting was done to create a Continental Army for the American Revolution. -
Declaration of Independence adopted
In the document it presented the idea that all government power comes from the people which the American leaders agreed with and adopted it. -
Battle of Saratoga
The American forces won this battle against the British. This then convinced France to join the Americans against their old rival, Britain. -
Winter at Valley Forge
After the Battle of Saratoga, the Americans had to face a harsh winter in Valley Forge with the cold, hunger, and disease being a main problem. -
Battle of Yorktown
America won the battle and got a lot of supplies and allies. -
U.S. Constitution written
The Articles of Confederation was proven to be too weak to rule effectively. The nation's leaders gathered to address this problem and made the U.S. Constitution. -
U.S. Constitution adopted
The constitution was made in September 1787, however it took till June 21, 1788 for the document to be adopted when New Hampshire became the ninth state to ratify the Constitution.
