    George Washington is Elected as President-Politcal
    As the former head of the Continental Army, George Washington was unanimously voted to take upon the responsibilites of being America's first president.Washington enlisted a cabinet to assist him in mainitaing a functional government in the budding nation. During his presidency, the first American political parties were formed, the Federalsits and Democratic Republicans. In his farewell address, the president warned the nation about the dangers of making allies and forming political parties.

    Election/Revolution of 1800-Political
    This election was between John Adams, a Federalist, and Thomas Jefferson, a Democratic-Republican. The two candidates were from opposing parties, each with distinct opinions. Jefferson won by eight electoral votes; since in the previous term, Adams was the president and Jefferson was the vice president, Jefferson's win was of great significance. The election represented a smooth transtiton from one political party to the other.

    Marbury vs. Madison Case-Political
    As Adams was leaving office, he gave Federalists judgeships to assure Fderalists still had some power. However, the new president, Jefferson, refused to accept the new appointments; he ordered Madison not to deliver the judgeships. Marbury, the jsutice of peace, was enraged. After reviewing the case, Chief Justice Marshall deemed the law for judgeship unconstitutional; he then confirmed the judicial review, which gave the Supreme Court the right to declare a legislative act unconstitutional.

    Louisiana Purchase-Expansion
    After Napoleon gave up his goal for an empire in the New World, he offered the land the President Jefferson. Despite initial hesitance regarding the constitutionality of the action, Jefferson purchased the land for 15 million dollars. Exapnding westward of the original 13 colonies, the purchase more than doubled the size of America. The new land paved way for further expansion and settlements.

    Lewis and Clark Expedition-Expansion
    In order to make best of the newly purchased land and to find the Northwest Passage, Jefferson called or an expedition. Led by Lewis and Clark, the crew was to travel west and gather informations regarding resources and the Native Indian tribes. On their journey, an Indian lady named Sacagawea was of great help. Although the Northwest Passage was not found, the expedition was a great success, and made settlement in the MIdwest much easier.

    After the victory of the War of 1812, America felt pride as a nation. This unanimous pride led to a sense of nationalism in society. People associated themselves with America as a whole instead of as individual states. This time period during James Monroe's presidency was highly imfactful on the general society.

    The Missouri Compromise-Society
    The debate over which states whould legalize states and which states should not, led to sectionalism in society. Each state thought of its own needs instead of considerign the nation as a whole. The Missouri Compromise drew a line below which states could have slaves, and above which slaves were not allowed. Societies were divided over the issue regarding the necessity of slaves; this caused some social turbulence.

    Beginning in 1845, the Manifest Destiny was a common idea among American societies. The belief that America's expansion was predestined by God effected societies, and joined people together in the goal of moving west.

    Annexation of Texas-Expansion
    After the congress of the Republic of Texas agreed to the annexation into American territory, Texas became the 28th state in the Union. This annexation expanded American territory and promoted further American settlement.
