  • End of French and Indian War

    The Treaty of Paris ended the French and Indian War. The
    French received all land from the Mississippi River west, while the British received all
    land from the Mississippi River east.
  • Trade Enforcement

    King George III kept colonists east of the Appalachian Mountains to maintain peace with Native Americans. Parliament needed revenue for troops, so new/old taxes are enforced.
  • Sugar Act

    Parliament lowered the Sugar Act tax, in hopes of reducing smuggling.
  • Stamp Act

    Everything had to be stamped to show that tax had been paid on that item.
  • Colonies are going to rebel

    After being convinced that British passed laws that violated colonial rights, Britain sent an army to occupy colonial cities.(Colonists believed the British Act went too far.)
  • Boston Massacre

    A fight had broken out between soldiers and Bostonians. 5 were shot.
  • Tea Act

    The Tea Act removed SOME of the taxes on tea, which made this less expensive for colonists. Colonists were still angry, and one night they dressed as Native Americans and boarded the East India Company ships, and threw 342 chests of tea overboard(Tea Party.)

    Parliament passed a series of laws called the Coercive Acts. These laws were meant to punish the colonists for resisting British authority.
