French and Indian War
A seven year long war fought between the British and French. The French were allied with Indians. Fought over land. -
Treaty of Paris 1763
Ended the French and Indian War. Stated that the French would give up all land in North America therefore eliminating any threat to the British colonies. -
Proclamation Line of 1763
Issued by King George lll. After the French no longer had territory; the British established a line along the Appalachian mountains forbidding anyone from settlement there. -
Sugar Act
An act that British Parliament passed that raise tax on foreign sugar imported by colonies. British sugar given opportunity for monopoly -
Stamp Act
Law passed by British that stated; any paper document had to come with a tax on it. -
Declaratory Act
Declaration made by the British stating that they had full authority to tax the American colonies following the repeal of both the Sugar and Stamp act. -
Townshend Revenue Act
British Parliament designed to collect money from colonists by putting tax/duties on glass, lead, paints, paper, and tea that was imported. -

An incident between British soldiers and citizens. Five people were killed during an altercation in the street. -

Sons of Liberty got aboard 3 ships on the Boston harbor. They threw 342 cases of tea over board into the war below -

Act that stated any colonists was to feed and provide shelter for British soldiers. At the expense of the colonists -
Intolerable Acts
A series of acts that were extremely overbearing. The purpose was to punish colonists for throwing tea into the Boston Harbor. -
First Continental Congress
Set out to defy the British government. All colonies met except for Georgia to decide what the next move would be following the

Second Continental Congress
Succeeded the First Continental Congress and lead colonial war efforts and advocated for Independence. Wrote the Declaration of Independence. -

Speech written by Patrick Henry. Purpose of becoming free from British rule. Known as one of most important speeches for the start of American Revolution. -
Battles of Lexington And Concord
These were the first military exchanges between British and colonists. Troops set out to take away colonial weapons instead they run into colonial militia. -

Drawn up by the Second Continental Congress that was an attempt to having rights within the colony while still remaining loyal to Britain. -

This was a pamphlet written by Thomas Paine advocating for colonists to seek independence -

Written by Thomas Jefferson saying that the 13 colonies declared freedom from Great Britain. -

A leader of the Revolution, and 1st president of United States. Named commander and chief due to prior military experiences and huge role in American Independence.
