French And Indian War
Description This was a war fought between Great Britain and the French and Indians of North America over Canada. George Washington and his fellows fought for Britain. In the end, Britain won. -
Sugar Act
Description This act put a three-cent tax on foreign refined sugar and coffee, indigo, and different kinds of wine. It only affected certain areas of population, but the people who wer affected were very upset about this, especially considering that the colonists had no say in it. -
Stamp Act
DescriptionThis was another act passed by Britain that stated, "every newspaper, pamphlet, public document or legal paper must have a stamp or British seal on it." The colonists were upset that they suddenly had to pay for something that had been free for years. After seeing the bitter reaction from colonists, Britain repealed the act in March 1766, but at the same time they passed the Declaratory Act, which made Britain the boss of American colonies "in any case whatsoever." -
Townshend Acts
Description More taxes on lead, glass, paint, paper, and tea. Obviously, the colonists' reaction was the same as when the Stamp and Sugar Acts were passed, so Britain repealed all these taxes except for tea. -
Boston Tea Party
Description Furious about the high taxes on tea, colonists who called themselves the "Sons of Liberty" disguised themselves as Native Americans and hid on the British ships. They then proceeded to dumping all the tea into the Boston Harbor. -
First Continental Congress Established
Description The First Continental Congress is established in defiance of Britain. 56 delegates from all the colonies except for Georgia came and they met in secret. -

Description The Continental Congress meets again after the war started. Things were going bad but they made lots of important documents, like the Declaration of Independence and the Articles of Confederation. -

Description This was written by Thomas Jefferson and it stated that America was independent from Great Britain. -
Declaration of Independence Signed
Description This document was signed by many important people, especially John Hancock, who had the largest signature of the delgates. -
Washington Captures Trenton
Description Washington and his troops sailed across the Delaware and captured 900 drunken men from Trenton on Christmas. -
Washington Wins Battle of Princeton
Description A battle that followed the Trenton incident that almost drove Britain out of New Jersey for good. -

The France and Spain join the war on America's side. They provide great supplies and funding neccesary to winning the war. -
Articles of Confederation Adopted
Description This document was passed by the Second Continental Congress that was a basic set of rules for America. They didn't work too well, though. -
Treaty of Paris
Description This document stated that Britain had no control over America and had to remove their troops. Also, it set borders for the new, growing country. -
