    This year was also the ending of the French and Indian War. This was issued by King George III and this followed Great Britain's acquisition of French territory in North America after the end of the Seven Years' War. This Proclamation did not let all settlement west of a line drawn along the Appalachian mountains.

    The sugar act was on April 5th and was the first tax on American colonies imposed by the British Parliament. The purpose was to raise revenue through the colonial customs service and to give them more power. The Currency Act sought to protect British merchants and creditors from being paid in depreciated colonial currency.

The first was called the Townshend Revenue Act and it placed a tax on glass, paint, oil, paper, and tea. The second is called the Townshend Acts and it focused on the colonists angry reaction to everything.

    This was a deadly riot that occurred on King Street in Boston. It began as a street brawl between American colonists and a lone British soldier but then turned into a chaotic bloody slaughter.

    This was a protest by colonists in Boston against the Tea Tax that had been imposed by the British Government. The Boston patriots, dressed as the Mohawk Indians, raided three British ships in Boston harbor and dumped 342 containers of tea into the harbor.

    Articles of Peace
    The British and Americans sign preliminary Articles of Peace. This was a draft of the Treaty of Paris which is what ended the American Revolutionary War. These Articles provided American independence from the British and established geographical boundaries for the new nation.

    Washington resigns as commander in December. Washington wanted to return to civilian life because of the element in the transformation of the War for Independence into a true revolution. Then was later elected as the president.
