British soldiers fired into a crowd of rowdy people and was misinterpreted. -
Boston Tea Party 1773
A few colonists dressed up as Indians snuck onto a ship and threw off boxes of British tea. -
Intolerable Acts (aka Coercive Acts) 1773
A series of four laws passed by the British Parliament to punish the colony of Massachusetts Bay for the Boston Tea Party. They closed the Boston Harbor. -
Quartering Act 1774
Allowed British soldiers to go and stay in random colonists home. -
Battle of Lexington & Concord 1775
Marked the start of the American War of Independence. Also were the 'shot heard round the world' -
Second Continental Congress May 1775
To plan further responses if the British government did not repeal or modify the acts, there was a first continental congress prior to this. -
Common Sense 1776
A book written by Thomas Paine advocating for freedom from the British for the 13 colonies. -
Declaration of Independence 1776
This document officially freed the 13 Colonies from British control no longer being colonies and now being 13 States.
