American Revolution

  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
The Stamp Act was a tax levied directly on the American Colonists by the British government. This occurred because the British empire was very deep in debt after the Seven Years' War. So they decided to impose a tax on all paper documents in the colonies. The Stamp Act was asymmetrical because it was the British targeting the Colonists.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre was between the British and the colonists. the townspeople dared the soldiers to fire at them. The British fired and the colonists fled. This was asymmetrical because the townspeople couldn't fight or anything.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
The Boston Tea Party was a defiance protest against taxation. The colonists boarded 3 ships in the Boston Harbor and threw 342 chests of tea overboard. This was asymmetrical because it was a one way attack.
  • Battles of Lexington and Concord

    Battles of Lexington and Concord
The British troops were ordered to Lexington to capture two suspects and to Concord where the colonists stored ammunition. The minutemen were warned that the red coats were coming. The British destroyed the military stores at Concord, but while they marched back to Boston the minutemen held a steady fire and the redcoats suffered heavy casualties. This was an asymmetrical battle because the colonists were caught off guard.
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    Battle of Bunker Hill
The Americans occupied Breed's Hill and the British tried to drive them off. The British's first two attacks failed but the third one succeeded when the Americans ran out of ammunition. The British won this asymmetrical battle. The Patriots had held back behind a built up wall instead of fighting right away.
  • Common Sense

    Common Sense
Common Sense was a pamphlet written by Thomas Paine. He was the first person to openly ask for independence from the Great Britain. This act was asymmetrical because no body in Great Britain was really asking for independence.
  • Declaration of Independence

    Declaration of Independence
This was a statement adopted by the Second Continental Congress meeting in the Pennsylvania State House in Philadelphia. This announced that the 13 American Colonies regarded themselves as 13 independent sovereign states and no longer British ruled. These states formed the United States of America. This was asymmetrical because the British could not exactly ratify against them.
  • Battle of Trenton and Princeton

    Battle of Trenton and Princeton
The Continental Army keep retreating and were on the verge of defeat. They crossed the Delaware River on Christmas night and surprised a large Hessian force at Trenton, New Jersey. A week later they took Princeton, these victories boosted the Americans confidence and also attracted more men to the Continental Army. This was asymmetrical because it was a surprising attack that was not expected by the British.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    Battle of Saratoga
The Battle of Saratoga was between the British and Americans. The American troops won the battle. This convinced France to sign the Treaty of Alliance with the Untied States. This was asymmetrical because the Americans won easily.
  • Continental Army Wintering at Valley Forge

Continental Army Wintering at Valley Forge
The Continental Army of the newly formed United States of America stayed or wintered at Valley Forge for about 6 months. They were far enough away from Philadelphia that they wouldn't be attacked by surprise, and close enough to see the British. This was asymmetrical because the British were in nice warm houses while the American soldiers were out in the freezing cold.
  • War in the South / Charleston

War in the South / Charleston
This battle was between the British and the Americans. John Green's tactic was to keep running away until the British ran out of ammunition. This was very asymmetrical. Eventually the Americans ended up ''winning'' this battle.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    Battle of Yorktown
This battle was between the British and the Americans. This was the last major battle of the war. The American troops with 20,000 men surrounded all sides forcing Cornwallis to surrender. This last battle was asymmetrical because the Americans had a smart way of approaching the British.
