The Sugar Act
The Suagr Act of 1764 was a modified version of the one they placed in 1733, which was about to expire. This act lowered the tax on imported molasses from six pence to three pence. It also put taxes on other imported goods such as sugar, wines, coffe, etc. -

The Stamp Act
It was passed to require that all legal documents in the colonies had to bear a stamp, purchased from the tax collectors. These stamps meant they had to pay taxes on those papers. -
The Townshend Revenue Act
This act was issued by Charles Townshend, so the British could raise revenue and pay fro their army. Taxes was placed on glass, tea, psint and paper. -
The Boston Massacre
It was a street fight between a patriot mob and Britsh soldiers. The mob had challenged the British troops standing post in Boston. The British opened fire. Several colonists was killed in this fight. -
Tea Act
The British East India Company had financial problems, so they sold their tea to the colonists in hopes to get them out.They put taxes on the tea and didn't expect protests from the colonists. -
The Boston Tea Party
This event was a political protest, by The Sons of Liberty in Boston, to make it known they didn't want to pay taxes on the tea. This group dressed up as Native Americans and bombarded the British ships bringing in the tea. They threw the tea over board into the sea. -
The First Continental Congress
The meeting was held in Carpenter's Hall in Philidelphia. All thirteen clonies sent delegates, except Georgia. The metting was called to responed to the Intolerable Acts given to the colonies from the British Parliament. They also talked about coming together and pushing the British to realize their mistakes and wrong doings. -
Declaration and Resolves of the First Continental Congress
This document was a list of all the things that needed to be resolved from the Britsh's wrong doings. After writing it, the colonists sent the document to King George, not Parliament, because they was more loyal to the crown. -
The Association
The First Continental Congress had called for this association. It was to ban all trade between Britain and the colonies. No goods, ware and merchandise. This was done in hopes of creating econoimc problems for Britain. -

The Batlles of Lexington and Concord
General Gage had a plan to move into Massachusetts and take the American's gunpowder. Word spread to the American troops and they prepared for the attack. When the British arrived in Lexinton they was met by Minutemen, and a battle broke out. Lots of men died on both sides. Some British escaped and advanced into Concord by was attacked when they arrived by more American troops. They soon fled back to Boston. -
The Second Continental Congress
All thirteen colonies met in Philidelphia, Pennsylvania right after the war began to start. They began making plans to fight back, but still had hopes for peace. They even extended the Olive Branch petitiion to the King, but he refused. Then the war began to progress and they had to make a move. -
George Washington
Washington was appointed Commander in Chief, supreme commander. He chose to do it without pay. He was respected due to his experience in wars. He was a very important person in this war and after. -
Battle of Bunker Hill
American troops, under order of Artemis Ward, was ordered to go to Bunker Hill on the Charleston Peninsula overlooking Boston. Unfortunately, they went to the wrong hill, Breed's Hill, overlooking the British. A battle struck between the two, with lots of British troops dying. The British won this battle, nevertheless. Despite this the American troops still felt confident. -
"Common Sense" by Thomas Paine
This pamplet was written by Thomas Paine who challenged the Britsh. The pamphlet's direct audoence were colonist who was wary of independence from Britain, and it was written in plain english for understanding. THis choice, described in the pamphlet, is common sense. -
Declaration of Independence
This document was a declaration of the freedom of the thirteen colonie of United States of America, from Britain. The First Continental Congress was the one's to go over the things put in the documents. It declared and made up all the fundamental ideas that helped form America today. -
Arrival at Valley Forge
Washington and his men arrive at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. Documentation of the armies time and struggle was recorded by Albigence Waldo, Washington's personal physician. -
Treaty of Alliance with France
This was a military alliance between France and the US against Britain. Neither group could agree seperate peace with Britain. Independence for the US had to be a condition to any peace agreements. This alliance then opened ways of trade between the two groups. This also was an essential part to the US winning. -
Baron von Steuben arrives at Valley Forge
He came from Prussia to serve in the war. As soon as he reported to Pennsylvania he was assigned to General Washington in Valley Forge. In his memoir he described what he saw and encountered in the camp. Then he talked about how he trained each one of those men how to fight. He created the bayonet and showed the soldiers how to use them. Without von Steuben, the soldiers wouldn't have been ready to fight their attles in the war. -

Articles of Confederation
The Continental Congress adopted this document as the first constitution of the United States. It left most of the power to state govenrments. This led to the need for a stronger Federalgovernment. -
Surrender of Cornwallis
General Cornwallis surrendered during the last major battle of the war in Yorktown, Virginia. The French and Americans blocked the British soldiers, leading Cornwallis to surrender. He pleaded illness to get out of the surrender ceremony. This was one of the events that brought the revolution to an end. -
Treaty of Paris
The treaty was signed in Paris. Representatives from King George III of Britain and the United states of the America was present. The document recognized that America was independent and set up their boarders. This ended the American Revolutionary War. -
United States Constitution
The Constitution was signed by members of the Constitutional Congress in Philidelphia, Pennsylvania. This document was created to cover the need for a strong centeral government. They new later they had to revise it but went ahead and sent it for approval. Later it was voted on in all the states. This document was very essential and has shaped the America we live in today.
