  • The Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act
    This act required all colonists to pay a tax on every peice of printed paper they used. Ship's papers, legal documents, licenses, newspapers, other publications, and even playing cards were taxed. The colonists felt that the making of this act was against their rights because they were being taxed by the government without their consent or say.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    British Army soildiers shot and killed 5 colonists in the streets of Boston. Colonists were believed to be verbally harrasing the soldiers and possibly throwing objects at them. The soldiers fired into the crowd, without orders, and instantlly killing 3 and wounding others. Two other colonists later died from their wounds. This event lead to even higher tension between the colonists and the British regulars.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    This was the response of colonists to the Tea Act on May 10, 1773. Colonists were not happy with the act because they were being taxed wihtout having any say in the government. More than 100 colonists, disguised as Native Americans, dumped 90,000lbs of tea into the Boston Harbor. This was a key event that lead to the American Revolution.
  • Intolerable Acts

    Intolerable Acts
    The parlement passed a series of "intolerable" acts in response to the Boston Tea Party. These outrageous acts were put in place as a punishment to the colonists. The series of acts were: The Boston Port Act, Massachusetts Government Act, Administration of Justice Act, Quartering Act, and the Quebec Act
  • The Signing of the Declaration of Independence

    The Signing of the Declaration of Independence
    Fifty-six delegates gathered and signed the Declaration of Independence which stated tht the thirteen colonies where now seperate states from Great Britain. The document was sent to the royal government. This lead to further war and the American Revolution.
  • Winter a Valley Forge

    Winter a Valley Forge
    Cally Forge, Pennsylvannia was the site of the American Army illitary base. At Valley Forge 2,500 troops were lost due to starvation disease and hypothermia. George Washington lead the troops to battle at the Battle of White Marsh and was able to succesfuly relocate his soldiers to a more secure location for the winter
  • States Pass the Articles of Confederation

    States Pass the Articles of Confederation
    This was an agreement between teh thirteen colonies that established the United States of America and served as the first constitution. However, in order to be passed, all thirteen colonies had to ratify them. The Articles of Confederation were actually adopted in 1777 but it took 4 years for all thriteen states to ratify it.
  • Treaty of Paris

    Treaty of Paris
    This treaty officially ended the Revolutionary War between Great Britain and now the United States of America. The treaty took over a year to be signed. Negotiations of peace arose in April of 1782, and after many meetings and debates over how the division of land should work the treaty was finally signed.
