The age of enlightenment was an intellectual and philosophical movement that took place in Europe. An example of Enlightenment is the French revolution and the American revolution. -

The French and Indian War was a war over who got to control North America. British forces ended up winning the war after taking down French troops in India. -
The Sons of Liberty
The Sons of Liberty was a political group in the 13 colonies that fought to advance rights for colonists and to get rid of British taxation. They were organized but sometimes violent and their founders were Samuel Adams and John Hancock. -
Stamp Act of 1765
This act made it so citizens had to pay taxed for stamps on anything such as paper and documents. It was forced upon the colonizers by the British and cost British sterling and not the colonial currency. -
Townshend Act Of 1767
The Townshend act was to help pay for the expenses the government needed to govern America. The Townshend act initiated taxed on lead, tea, paper, paint, and glass. -
Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre was a street fight between some American colonists and a small squad of British soldiers. The 9 British soldiers shot at the 300 to 400 people who were throwing things at them and being verbally abusive to them. -
Boston Tea Party
The Boston Tea Party was a protest by the Sons of Liberty over the tax on tea. They ended up dumping 342 chests of tea, imported from East India, into the ocean. -
The First Continental Congress Meeting
The Continental Congress first met in Philadelphia with representatives from all 13 colonies except Georgia. They met in Carpenters' Hall to consider their reaction to the British. -
The Battles of Lexington & Concord
These battles were the first major military campaign in the American Revolution. In Massachusetts they went against the British laws and defeated the British Army resulting in more support in the American Revolution. -
Second Continental Congress Meeting
This second Continental Congress meeting was held in the Independence Hall. The meeting covered their further responses if the British did not repeal the acts they put on the American colonist's. -
The Battle of Bunker Hill
This battle was fought during the Siege of Boston and the beginning of the American Revolution. The British won this battle but America proved they could fight back against the British Army. -
The Olive Branch Petition
The Olive Branch Petition was Congress's last attempt to prevent war with the British. It was sent to the king and stated how they are loyal to the British crown and that they were British citizens too. -
Articles of Confederation
The Articles of Confederation were America's first constitution. These articles created a national government and allowed the United States to govern themselves. -
Great Compromise
This compromise allowed for the 2 houses to have different representation. The upper house would have equal representation of each state and the lower house would have a portion of representation based on the states population. -
Bill of Rights
The Bill of Rights was a list of 12 amendments. This bill was created to calm the public's fear of what the national government might run into.
