  • Sugar Act

This act was very different compared to the others. It actually lowered the tax on sugar, molasses, and other sugar-based products.
  • Stamp Act

This act forced people to always get paper that hat a British stamp on it. The stamp is what gave the paper its tax.
  • Quartering Act

This act allowed all British soldiers to stay in a colonist's house without special permission. These soldiers nearly eat their roommates out of house and home (literally)
  • Writs of Assistance

This law was passed so British soldiers could barge in and look at (and possibly loot) your stuff. This was so that colonists couldn't smuggle non-taxed objects.
  • Declaratory Act

This act gives the British government full control over the colonies. Americans choose to ignore this new act, causing an uproar in England.
  • Townshend Acts

  • Townshend Acts

Several new taxes and laws are passed that cause more anarchy in the colonies.
  • Boston Massacre

Colonists gang up on British troops and, in self defense, the British shot at least 5 colonists and wounded several others who would die after the Massacre.
  • Tea Act

In response to the colonists backlash, the Parliament removes all acts established except for the one on tea
  • Boston Tea Party

Since Britian keeps the tax on tea, the colonists revolt by throwing boxes of East India Co. tea into the Boston Harbor.

Due to the colonists behavior, all acts are renewed and all of the Boston ports are blocked off

Delegates from twelve different states came together to discuss a solution to the conflict.
  • Battles of Lexington and Concord

These were the battles that started the revolution that would define America as a whole
  • "Common Sense"

Written by Thomas Paine, this pamphlet of information was mass produced throughout the colonies to get more and more people to go to the patriots side.
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

One of the first major battles of the Revolutionary War, where the colonists fought valiantly, but were defeated due to being unprepared and unskilled
  • Olive Branch Petition

This petition is the last hope for a peaceful resolve between Britian and America, but King George rejects it anyway (...and it all went downhill from there).

A surprise attack on a group of British soldiers (on a holiday, mind you) by General Washington and his ragtag group of soldiers.
  • Winter at Valley Forge

The main hurdle this time was not the war,
for it was the Winter at Valley Forge.
Several had no clothes on and those were the first dead,
and a deadly virus, Smallpox, through the air it spread.
Food rations non-existent and conditions so poor,
That it would make man question the concept of war.
All the while, George didn't want to look stupid,
So he got some help from good old Baron Von Steuben.
  • Battle of Saratoga

The first real victory the Americans had over the British (no, that one time with the cannons doesn't count).
  • The Battle of Yorktown

This is the battle that defined the war, the final battle, if you will. The men are equally matched, but with better knowledge of the land and support from Spain and France, America won it's independence
  • The Treaty of Paris of 1783

The French replace the Proclamation Line and put a new one on the Mississippi River. They also leave us with the Statue of Liberty as a sign of their gratitude, and even went on to claim independence from Great Britian (and we all know how that turned out for them cough cough Napoleon cough cough World War 1).
