  • French and Indian War

    This war was over France’s expansion into the Ohio’s River Valley causing tension and confusion with the British.French won many battles with their strategically built fort-Fort Duquesne.British officially claimed war in 1754 with commander Lord Loudoun,but Loudoun had no success like the others against the french.The british empire started to succeed in the war after they paid Prussia to help them.The treaty of Paris in 1763 compromised on land and power and peace was found again.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    King george III declared all the land west of the appalachian divide is the indians. It forbidden citizens and colonial governments from buying land or trading with natives. Only travelers with a license can travel to and trade with the natives.The colonist hated the proclamation and defied it many times. It was supposed to be temporary but ended up lasting up to the end of the revolutionary war.
  • Treaty of 1763

    The treaty was signed by France, Spain, Britain, and Portugal over the fact that it was too expensive to keep going. This treaty was made to end the 7 year war/french and indian war and compromise together peacefully. The main terms of the treaty was - British gets all the mainland of north america east of mississippi (instead of new orleans) while French got the west islands of Guadeloupe, Martinique, Marie-Galante, and Désirade.
  • Stamp Act

    It was the 1st internal tax directly on American colonists by the British Parliament. This act imposed tax on all documents. The tax was imposed to pay off the debt of the 7 year war. This tax started mob violence and angered many people.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre was a deadly riot that ended in many injured and killed. This riot was from a protest in support of “ no taxation without representation” but turned violent when a soldier was trigger happy and shot his gun to break off the riot and shot and killed an 11 year old boy.
  • Cowpens

    American won battle that forced british territory back. It was deemed the “most decisive american victory”. This led to the win of the battle of yorktown leading into the victory of the whole war.
  • Committees of Correspondence

    It was the colonies’ first means for maintaining communication. It started when british empire started taking more and more control. They talked about how they need to react to the control and how to go against the british empire. The people ended up being each other's voice.
  • Boston Tea Party

    It was a protest to the british tea tax. They dumped 342 chests of tea into the water. It was the first defiance of the british and it caused many punishments. It was the start of the revolution.
  • Intolerable Acts

    The intolerable acts was a set of laws caused by the act of the boston tea party. There were 4 punitive measures. They closed the city’s harbor till they paid for the destroyed tea. This also led to the colonists being forced to house troops they were sent to watch over them to keep them in line.
  • Lexington and Concord

    These battles kicked off the American Revolution. British troops marched from Boston to Concord to take a “arms cache”. Paul Revere warned the others. A confrontation on the Lexington town green started off the fighting, and soon the British were hastily retreating under intense fire
  • Bunker Hill

    British defeated the Americans at the Battle of Bunker Hill in Massachusetts. Although the Amercians lost, the battle was a huge confidence builder which helped them in later battles. This battle also made the british realize the war would be awful and expensive.
  • Publication of Common Sense

    It was an important way to spread of ideas in the 16th-19th centuries.The pamphlet advocated independence for the American colonies from Britain.“...This new world hath been the asylum for the persecuted lovers of civil and religious liberty from every part of Europe.Hither they have fled,not from the tender embraces of the mother,but from the cruelty of the monster;and it is so far true of England,that the same tyranny which drove the first emigrants from home,pursues their descendants still.”
  • Declaration of Independence

    This is the official document that declares independence to the 13 colonies from Britain. It explains why they want independence and what led to it. It also writes complaints about the king and talks about how being free will protect their rights.
  • Saratoga

    Lasted till October 17, 1777. Had two battles in the second year of the revolutionary war. They got the french, spanish, and dutch to join the rebellion side of the war. Not only did they beat the british, but they got the key helpers there to win the whole war.
  • Valley Forge

    Went to June 19, 1778. The winter camp lasted 6-months and was a turning point of the war. The conditions were awful and were going down hill till former Prussian military officer Friedrich Wilhelm Baron von Steuben came and helped. This is where the rebellion soldiers slepts, trained, ate, did anything.
  • Yorktown

    Ended October 19, 1781. Most important battle of the American Revolution. American troops went and blocked the british army on land while the french blocked them by water. With british trapped in all ways, they surrendered.
  • Treaty of Paris

    This treaty was signed by Franklin, Adams and Jay at the Hotel d’York in Paris, was finalized on September 3, 1783. It ended the American Revolutionary War officially. It talked about the terms of the colonies gaining independence, territories, and
    pricing and more.
