  • The stamp act

    First direct british tax on american colonists. Every news paper pamphlet , and other public and legal document had to have a stamp , or british seal , on it.
  • The sugar act

    The 1764 act put a three-cent tax on foreign refined sugar and increased taxes of coffee , indigo, and certain kinds of wine. The taxes were enacted without consent of the colonists.
  • Townshend Acts

    These laws placed new taxes on glass, lead , paints , paper and tea , the colonial reaction was the same as the sugar act and stamp act.

    shooting of 5 american colonists by british troops on march 5 ,1770. It deepened america distrust of the british military presence in the colonies.
  • The boston tea party

    Angry and frustrated american colonists mad at the new tea tax called Sons of liberty , disguised themselves as Mohawk Native Americans boarded three british ships and dumped 342 whole crates if british tea into boston harbor.

    Two groups of people from all over the 13 colonies who came together to discuss liberty. They came together to act together in response to the Intolerable Acts.
  • The battles of lexington

    the british chose to march to concord because it was an arms depot , which meant the americans had stock pilled weapons there. As they passed through lexington someone fired a shot so both sides opened fire , the americans had to withdraw but they slowed down the british. So by the time they got to concord they were waiting for them in force and made them retreat.

    when the revolutionary war had started things were going so bad and the armed forces were disorganized, The continental congress created the continental army and named george washington commander-in-chief.
