Navigation Acts
The Navigation Acts were laws passed by England to remain in control over colonial trade. The acts made colonists but English goods and limited trade between the colonies and other countries. -
Writs of Assistance
The Writs of Assistance allowed for any British solider to search your house for smuggled goods. The Writs of Assistance caused most colonists from smuggling until this law was repealed. -
Treaty of Paris of 1763
The document that ended the war between the British and French over the Ohio River Valley. This treaty ended French power in North America and expanded British Territory and increased debt. -
Proclamation Act of 1763
The Proclamation Act of 1763 were made to keep the natives and colonists from fighting and divided the two colonies. This action made colonists angry and not pay the debt for the war/the taxes. -
Sugar Act of 1764
The Sugar Act of 1764 required colonists to pay a tax of 6 pence for molasses, sugar, coffee, and wine. The Sugar Act of 1764 caused colonists to start smuggling goods to avoid tax. -
The Stamp Act of 1765
The Stamp Act of 1765 required colonist to purchase stamps to deliver any piece of legal paper or other printed paper to England. This caused everyone to pay taxes not just merchants. -
The Quartering Acts of 1765
The Quartering Acts of 1765 required all colonist to house British soldiers and provide them with supplies. This caused colonists to put that no quarter has to house a solider in almost all of their important documents. -
Stamp Act Congress
The Stamp Act Congress was a meeting that was held to petition the King. The Stamp Act Congress cause the making of the Sons of Liberty which was a secret society that opposed the British. -
Declaratory Act
The Declaratory Act said that British government had supreme authority to govern the colonies. This caused Americans to ignore this declaration. -
Townshend Acts of 1767
The Townshend Acts stated that goods would be taxed before they were sent into the American colonies. The Townshend Acts caused the colonists to protest this act, even though the British thought they wouldn't notice, and eventually get it repealed. -
The Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre was the killing of 5 colonials by British soldiers and was used as propaganda. The Boston Massacre caused the creation of the Sons of Liberty. -
Tea Act
The Tea Act was passed by the Parliament and was made for colonists to not have tax on anything besides for tea, and lowered the existing tax for tea. The Tea Act started the Boston Tea party and was the main reason for the formation. -
Boston Tea Party
The Boston Tea Party was the dumping of over 300 crates of tea by colonists dressed up as Indians. The Boston Tea Party caused the British to shut down Boston Harbor and for an another Quartering Act to be put in play. -
Coercive Acts
The Coercive Acts were laws passed by the British issued in response to the Boston Tea Party. The Coercive Acts caused colonists to band together to try and get these unfair laws repealed. -
First Continental Congress
The First Continental Congress was a meeting in Philadelphia of all the colonies except for Georgia, where the colonists discussed terms of bans. The First Continental Congress caused the building of a militia and banning trade with Britain until Intolerable Acts were repealed. -
The Battle of Lexington and Concord
The Battle of Lexington and Concord was the battle of the British and the Colonists at Lexington and Concord where the British tried to arrest the Colonial leaders and destroy their weapons. This fight cause the American Revolution. -
Second Continental Congress
The Second Continental Congress was a meeting that discussed the created of an Army and printing money to pay soliders. The Second Continental Congress caused George Washington to become general and an army being made. -
Battle of Bunker Hill
The Battle of Bunker Hill is a battle about the British taking over Bunker Hill for the high ground where the British technically won. The Battle of Bunker Hill caused the Colonists to become more confident become in their books it was a win because they lost 400 minutemen while the British lost 1000 British soldiers. -
Olive Branch Petition
The Olive Branch Petition was a document for England to try and make peace and to let the Colonies become independent, but the King rejects the petition. This caused the King to try and block American Ships and to send 30,000 German mercenaries. -
Common Sense
Common Sense was a pamphlet made by Thomas Paine to try and convince those fence sitters to fight for the cause against British and to break away from them. This caused the idea of independence to become known. -
Declaration of Independence
The Declaration of Independence was a draft that showed colonists what was up and what the representatives wanted to do or become independent. The Declaration of Independence caused the Revolutionary War.
