Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre began as a quarrel between some American colonists and a British soldier in Boston, Massachusetts. It then quickly escalated leaving 6 injured and 5 dead. -
Boston Tea Party
American colonists were angry at the British for imposing the Tea Act. In retaliation, the Sons of Liberty dumped 342 chests of tea imported by the British East India Company into the Boston Harbor. -

The Battles of Lexington and Concord
On April 18, 1775, Joseph Warren learned that the British were planning to march to Concord. He told Paul Revere and William Dawes warned the residents. On April 19, the British arrived at Lexington where a battle broke out. The British then continued to Concord and burned what was left. The militiamen headed to Concord's North Bridge where British soldiers resided, resulting in a battle. The British headed back to Boston, but were attacked by militiamen. They attempted to retreat, but failed. -
Olive Branch Petition Sent
The colonists' final attempt to avoid going to war with Britain by proclaiming their loyalty to the crown and asserting their rights as citizens. -
The Adoption of the Declaration of Independence
On July 4, 1776, the Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence and severed ties with Great Britain.
