Stamp Act of 1765
This act required all the colonists to pay a certain tax which was represented by a stamp. This was really made to help the pay for the British to continue to stay stationed during the seven years war. -
Townshend Act of 1767
They needed to pay for all the expenses that came with governing the American Colonies. So they raised the taxes on glass, lead, paper, and tea to help pay the expenses. -
Boston Massacre
A very terrible and violent act that happened in Boston. 9 British soldiers shot 300-400 people who were harassing them verbally. -
Boston Tea PARTY!!!!
In an act of protest 60 American colonists threw 342 chests of tea into the Boston Harbor. They did this to protest against the massive tax raise in tea at the time. -
Intolerable Acts
A series of 4 laws that was passed by the British Parliament. It was made to punish the colony of Massachusetts Bay for the Boston Tea PARTY. -
First Continental Congress
It was convened in Carpenters Hall in Philadelphia. It was where the 13 colonies came together and discuss Americas future under growing British aggression. -
Battle of Bunker Hill
The Patriots were eventually defeated in this battle. A major thing is that they proved they could defend against and hold their own against the more powerful British. -
Olive Branch Petition sent to England
It was adopted by congress on July 5th 1775. It was sent to the king as a last chance to prevent a formal war. -
Articles of Confederation
This was the first US constitution and form of Government. It was made to attempt balance the sovereignty of the states. -
Battle of Yorktown
Washington lead this certain army to the victory that was the Battle of Yorktown. This victory eventually led to peace and independence in America. -
Treaty of Paris (Signed)
This was signed between the American Colonies and Great Britain. This treaty ended the American Revolution and formally recognized the US as an independent nation. -
3/5 Compromise
This compromise was reached among states during the 1787 Constitutional Convention. It said that every 3 out of 5 slaves counted towards the states total taxes and legislative representation. -
Bill of Rights
It was a summary of fundamental rights and privileges. It was made to guarantee people against violation by the Government.
