    The Enlightenment

    The Enlightenment was a period of realizations new ideas that changed the way a lot of people thought. People changed their morals, priorities and values. This would go on to be a big cause of the Revolution. Britian would come to violate what the Enlightenment was about, causing people to get upset. It lasted from about 1685 to 1815.

    French and Indian war

    The French and Indian was a war for control of the Ohio River Valley. Whoever owned the land would benefit greatly. French and Britian both claimed they owned it, and eventually war struck out. The French ended up losing, but Britian didn't get off all that well. They were completely broke from the war, so they started taxing the Colonies much higher. This was a main reason why the American Revolution happened.

    The Writs of Assistance was a permanent universal Search Warrant that allowed British officers to search any house they wanted. This violated what people would consider their natural right of privacy. This violation of natural rights would come to be another big reason why the American Revolution happened.

    The Treaty of Paris was the formal end of the French and Indian war.
    France had to renounce all land east of the Mississippi. They also gave up Canada, and Spain gave Florida.

    The Proclamation of 1763 made it so that Colonists couldn't live west of the Appalachian Mountains. Many people were upset about this because Britian had just won that land and was restricting them from using it. Many people went across anyways because of the good farm land and because it was too restricting.

    The Townsend acts were a series of acts that taxed common goods. After the French and Indian war, Britian was struggling financially. To resolve this issue they decided to tax the Colonies much higher than usual. The main one being the Tea act, which was an everyday thing that everyone drank.

    The Quartering act acted like a follow up to the Writs of Assistance. Not only could British officers enter your house to search it, but now they could stay at your house without your consent. Your house which you owned could be taken over and you couldn't do anything about it.

    Stamp act Repealed, declaration act
    After protest from the 13 colonies, and an appeal from Benjamin Franklin, Britin finally decided to repeal the Stamp act. However that same day they passed the Declaration act, stating they had total power over the colonies.

    The Boston Massacre started as a mostly harmless protest by the people of Boston. They were harassing 8 British Soldiers with snow balls. Eventually the soldiers opened fire, killing 5 people. This was a big deal because the tyranny of Britian hadn't been violent until now, and was a big reason why the revolution happened.

    The Boston Tea Party was an act of defiance for the Tea act. The tea act put high taxes on all tea products. Tea was a common part of the colonies diet, so they were outraged at this act. People took one million dollars worth of tea, and dumped it all into the ocean, this caused Boston to be put in a blockade.

    Politicians from every colony except Georgia met to discuss how to respond to the Blockade. They asked the king to end taxes and intolerable acts. It was the first time most of the colonies came together to have one voice.

    The battles of Lexington and Concord were the first battles of the American Revolution. Nobody knew who shot the first shot. The Colonists won the battle and were able to move the arms cache the British were after.

    The Second Continental Congress was the second meeting of the Colonists Delegates. This meeting was when Geroge Washington was chosen to lead the Colonists Army, and was when the Colonies decided they wanted to declare their Independence.

    The Declaration of Independence is the official.. well uh declaration of independence from Britian. This was also the moment where France saw that the colonists were determined to win this war, and decided to make an alliance.

    The Battles of Fort Washington and Fort Lee marked a major loss for the Continental Army. Washington lost multiple battles here and was forced to retreat. From this victory not only did they gain the forts but also the Hudson River.

    The Battle of Saratoga was a major event in the war. Not only because it was a good win for the colonists, but because after this battle, the French were convinced that the Americans had a fighting chance against the British.

    After a string of defeats at Fort Washington and Lee, moral was very low. Luckily the winter helped the colonist because Britian wasn't prepared, but mor was still bad. But at valley forge the army under went a training regiment. This was the first bit of real training they got during the war
  • Alliance with France

    So far in the war the colonists haven't been doing terrible, they have won a lot of battles, but are still going against the strongest army in the whole world. After the battle of Saratoga France saw they had potential to win, and following the declaration of Independence, decided to ally with the Colonists to defeat Britian.

    The battle of Yorktown marked the final conflict of the American Revolution. After the French got involved Britian was having a lot more trouble, and decided that the colonies weren't worth the resources they would be putting into the war.

    The Treaty of Paris of 1783 was the official peace agreement between the colonies and Britian. After the battle of Yorktown Britian was pretty much done (idk what they were doing for 2 years but sure.)

    Alexander Hamilton was first secretary of the Treasury, a brilliant economist. He also served in the American Revolution. The thing he is moat famous for is the creation of the financial system of the United States, along with the first banks.

    Thomas Jefferson was a big role in the American revolution, being one of the authors of the declaration of independence. He also represented Virginia at the continental congress, as well serving as the United States ambassador to France

    John Adams worked with the founding fathers to encourage the issuing of the Declaration of Independence. He would also go to serve as the first vice president, and eventually became the second president of the United States
