French and Indian War Begins
Started due to disputes over land in the Ohio Valley which ended up leading to battles between the French and British -
Albany Plan
The Albany Plan was a plan to put the British North American Colonies under a centralized government. -
French and Indian War Ends
The French gave up all of their territories in North America which ended all foreign military threat to the colonies. -
Proclamation of 1763
Prohibited colonists from settling on lands acquired from the French following the war. The land was given to the Native Americans -
Sugar Act
The British aimed at ending the smuggling of sugar and molasses from the French and Dutch into the Americas. Angered the colonists because they were being taxed -
Stamp Act
The British tried to raise revenue by directly taxing all colonial papers. (legal papers, newspapers, pamphlets, cards, almanacs, and dice.) -
Townshend Act
The Townshend act initiated taxes on glass, lead, paint, paper, and tea. This was to help pay the expenses for being involved with governing the colonies. -
Boston Massacre
A deadly riot that occurred on King Street Boston. Initially instigated by American colonists, British troops opened fire on the crowd of people causing five fatalities. -
Boston Tea Party
An event in which American colonists snuck onto harbored trade ships and began to dump dozens of boxes of tea into the Boston harbor. -
Coercive Acts
A direct response to the Boston Tea Party incident as a way to punish the colony of Massachusetts for their actions. Resulted in massive economic loss and greater pushback from the colonies. -
First Continental Congress
A meeting held between 12 delegates for all of the colonies minus Georgia. Concluded that Englishmen and colonists should have the same rights in America. -
Battle of Lexington and Concord
Very first battle within the American Revolution. Massachusetts residents defied orders from redcoats and began to attack them, causing the revolution to begin. -
Second Continental Congress
Development of independence. 13 delegates from each colony came together to agree to seek out independence from their British rulers. It also established the name "United States of America" -
Olive Branch Petition
A final attempt to try and prevent war breaking out between the colonies and Britain. It was unsuccessful and resulted in the immediate beginning of the revolutionary war. -
Common Sense
Author Thomas Paine writes a pamphlet called Common Sense to encourage colonists to fight for Independence from Britain. This was written as a rebellion against taxes imposed by the English. -
Declaration Of Independence
This is a document that stated the 13 Colonies would be separating from England and was written by the founding fathers addressed directly to the king of England. It makes up the bylaws of the United States of America and is still used today. -

Battle of Saratoga
Continental army of untrained colonists win a battle in Saratoga, New York against Britain's large army. This became a turning in the Revolutionary War because of the support the colonies gained from countries in Europe. -

Valley Forge
Valley Forge Pennsylvania was a large plateau that was concurred by George Washington and the Continental Army from the British. this area had been a supply area with a forge that the colonies used for resources but the British had burned their buildings and took its supplies. In retaliation, the colonies had attacked Valley Forge and regained its land. -
Articles of Confederation
Original document that the Continental Congress used as the law or constitution until the Current day Constitution was put into place a year later. -

Battle of Yorktown
After the Battle of Saratoga and the treaty agreements made with the French. The Colonies Successfully regained Yorktown, Virginia with the help of navy and ground forces the French had supplied. This had been what caused peace negotiations to start between England and the Colonies giving the U.S. Independence. -
Treaty of Paris
The treaty document that ended the war between the Colonies, and Great Britain as well as any forces that helped each side. Officially gave Independence to the colonies.
