Irish Declaratory Act
The Irish Declaratory Act was the precursor of the similarly known American version that was established to power of England over Ireland. It was copied nearly word for word for the American version. -
Beginning of the Seven Years War
The last war before the French Revolution. It was an expensive war that included England, France, and Spain; it was not limited to purely Europe. There were combatants from every hemisphere. This war was another financial strain on England that influenced their taxes. -
Proclamation of 1763
Colonists are instructed that are not allowed to settle West of the Appalachian mountains due to fear they would be attacked by more Native Americans. People disagree; they had just fought an entire war to be allowed to do this. Some people settle south anyways. -
Sugar Act
The Sugar Act was an attempt made by England to collect revenue from the sugar trade by taxing the colonies after the Seven Years War. Colonists were angry that they were taxed without permission. -
Stamp Act
The stamp act was the taxing of most, if not all paper objects by the British in an attempt to raise funds for their costs. The colonists became extremely upset and organised a convention to try and repeal it. -
The Quartering Act
The act of Quartering was the allowance of letting and keeping soldiers into civilian homes if they need the room. Colonists were angry and fearful of this act because they now had soldiers who they were paying living in their house against their will. -
Sons of Liberty Founded
The Sons of Liberty were a major group associated with the repeal of the Stamp Act. They are infamously known for their tarring and feathering of British soldiers. -
Repeal of Stamp Act
The Repeal of the Stamp Act was short lived and followed by the Declaratory Acts. The act allowed the British to tax the colonists whenever, disallowed Town Meetings, closed the Boston Harbor, and further limited colonist rights. -
Townshend Act/Duties
The Townshed duties were taxes on common goods from other colonies. Similar to the Tea Act, colonists instead smuggled goods so that they could avoid it. -
Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre was the massacre of five American colonists by British soldiers after a rowdy crowd provoked. The colonists begin protests in anger. -
Tea Act
The tea act was the addition of a tariff on tea sold from anywhere other than England, allowing them to increase the prices themselves. Colonists in retaliation organised and threw the tea of several ships into the Boston Harbor. -
Intolerable Acts
The Intolerable Acts were the series of unacceptable acts performed by the British that included the Quartering act and shutting off the harbour. The colonists, having enough, begin spreading the news of revolution. -
Beginning of American Revolution
The Revolutionary War wasn't sudden. It was a culmination of several years of political control and authority. The exact effects are too many to list, but it set precedent for French and British citizens. -
Lexington and Concord
Lexington and Concord is the first official battle of the Revolutionary War. It was the meeting of the two groups and only started when an unknown shooter shot.
