This followed Great Britain's gain of French territory in North America after the end of the French and Indian War, which did not allow settlement past a line drawn along the Appalachian Mountains. -

The stamp act was created by England to help pay for the debt from the French and Indian War. The stamp act put a tax on every piece of paper used, including newspaper, documents, etc. -

This was a political protest by the Sons of Liberty. They destroyed a whole shipment of tea from the East India Trading Company in the Boston Harbor. -
Intolerable Acts
A series of laws passed by England as a result of the Boston Tea Party. Some include the tea act or the stamp act. -
Second Continental Congress
A convention of delegates from the Thirteen Colonies met up to discuss how would the colonist would meet the military threat of the British. It was agreed that a Continental Army would be created. -
Common Sense
Common Sense is a pamphlet written by Thomas Paine that inspired people in the 13 Colonies to declare and fight for independence from Great Britain. The pamphlet explained the advantages of and the need for immediate independence in clear, simple language. -
Declaration of Independence
The Continental Congress meeting at Pennsylvania, which announced that the thirteen American colonies declared independence with Great Britain. They started to regard themselves as thirteen new independent sovereign states, and no longer a part of the British Empire. -
Treaty of Paris
The Treaty of Paris was signed by the King of England that reconized America as independent. This ended the American Revolution.
