  • Treaty of Paris

    The Treaty of Paris ended the French and Indian War, giving power over the lands to Britain. The French lost all of their land in America.
  • Pontiac's Rebellion

    Chief Pontiac leads tribes to rebel against the British. Many people that were with Chief captured British forts.
  • Proclamation Line

    This act stated that the British could not go west of the Appalachian Mountains into Indian territory.
  • Sugar Act

    This act stated made the colonists have to pay less tax for items with sugar within them. This was so that the colonists would quit smuggling items and would actually pay the taxes, since they were lowered.
  • Stamp Act

    This act required all colonists that used anything made out of paper, but stamps so that the British would be making more money. Everything from newspapers to playing cards had to come with a stamp. This way even if you couldn't read or write, you would still have to buy stamps to, for example, play cards.
  • Quartering Act

    This act required all colonists to provide a home for British soldiers. This included food and any supplies the soldiers needed. The colonists could not deny. This benefited the British so that no colonists would be doing anything illegal.
  • Writs of Assistance

    This allowed British soldiers to search through the belongings of the colonists if they were suspicious about anything, like stolen goods. Was a free pass.
  • Declaration Act

    This act basically just clarified that the British had the most power over the colonies. This act was so that the colonists wouldn't get the idea to rebel.
  • Townshend Acts

    This act taxed the food before the colonists would buy it, that way they wouldn't see the tax and they wouldn't be upset. The British thought this was a better way to sell food and this way the colonists would actually pay for the food.
  • Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre was where 5 colonists were shot and died by Britain Soldiers because the soldiers claimed that the colonists were yelling and throwing stuff at them. They said it was self defense.
  • Tea Act

    Colonial Tea merchants were allowed to sell tea directly to customers. The tax on tea was reduced, the colonists still had to pay tax for tea. Overall, the tea was still cheaper than before.
  • Boston Tea Party

    This was the act of colonists disguised at Indians and they threw overboard all the tea they could find on 3 ships.
  • Coercive Acts

    These 4 laws were passed in order to punish Massachusetts in response to the Boston Tea Party. These laws were also known as the Intolerable Acts because of how harsh they were on the colonists.
  • First Continental Congress

    This meeting included votes from the men that met in order to take certain decisions such as repealing the Intolerable Acts
  • Second Continental Congress

    The Second Continental Congress agreed to make an official army, name George Washington the general, and authorize printing of money to pay soldiers.
  • Battles of Lexington and Concord

    700 British soldiers fought against 70 minutemen . "Shot around the world" is heard. British soldiers win.
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    Militia fight against British soldier on Breeds Hill. The hill they planned to fight on was Bunker Hill but ended up battling on another one. 400 minutemen died and 1,000 British soldiers died. The British still won because the militia ran out of ammo.
  • Olive Branch Petition

    Olives symbolize peace. Patriot leaders want peace with the king and avoid war. The king rejects the petition and sets out to rule the colonies. The king sends German Hessians to fight with the British.
  • Common Sense

    A pamphlet created by Thomas Paine that stated that independence from the British was necessary. Many people changed their minds thanks to this pamphlet. "Common Sense" was a success and sold 100,000 copies in 3 months. The idea of independence was loud.
  • Battle of Trenton

    General George Washington's troops attack the Hessians on Christmas Eve. General Washington wants to win this battle in order to give his people in his troops a reason to sign another contract and fight with him for another year. Washington's troops win.
  • Declaration of Independence

    This document declared independence of the colonies. From the point on that the document was accepted, the colonies now were the United States of America. This was a big deal for 2 reasons, they would lose British protection if they won, but if they lost the people who signed the document would get hanged for treason against the king.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    British troops encountered American troops near Saratoga, New York. After days of battle, Americans surround the British and fired on them until they had surrendered.
  • Winter of Valley Forge

    British force Washington to retreat from Philadelphia. Americans lack resources to survive the Winter. Many Americans die.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    British Commander sets up base in Yorktown. The Americans take advantage of this because its an easily accessible place. Americans surround the British and light cannons pointing at them. General Conrwallis is forced to surrender.
  • Treaty Of Paris

    This treaty kicked the British out of the United States of America. It officially ends the American Revolution.
