The Stamp Act and The Quartering Soldier Act
In 1765 Great Britain did numerous things that were deemed unacceptable by the Colonists. These consisted of the Stamp Act of 1765 where Great Britain forced the Colonists to use British Paper, and taxed them for it. Then there is the Soldier Quartering Act where Great Britain said that the Colonists had to let soldiers stay at their homes if necessary. -
Boston Massacre
After multiple days of protesting things began a little bit violent, and the Colonists began throwing Snow Balls and Rocks at a lone soldier. The Soldier later returned with a few more, but that only escalated things. After being verbally and physically being attacked one of the soldiers shot his gun into the crowd leading to more gunfire. This event killed 5 people, and wounded 6 others. -
Boston Tea Party
After multiple years of being frustrated at Great Britain a group of people known as the Sons of Liberty decided they have had enough. The group raided British Ships and dumped around 90,000 pounds of tea into the water. -
The First Continental Congress
In 1774 we see the colonists start the First Continental Congress. This was made up of delegates from the 13 colonies except for Georgia. -
Signing of the Declaration of Independence
On July 4th, 1776 the members of the First Continental Congress got together to sign the Declaration of Independence. -
Battle of Yorktown
The Battle or Yorktown was the last battle in the colonies, and was the most important. George Washington brought 17,000 troops from both the Colonies and France to take on Great Britain’s 9,000 troops in Yorktown. The Colonists and France won. -
Treaty of Paris 1783
After years of oppression and eventually fighting, the Colonies and Great Britain began to have peace talks. We see the official end of the Revolutionary War when the Treaty of Paris was signed in 1783. -
Signing of US Constitution
In 1787 the US Constitution was signed at the Independence Hall in Philadelphia.
