The colonists were taxed at a rate that
created serious threat of revolt. -
The Boston Tea Party
There were colonists that showed the government they would rebel by dumping 342 chests of tea into the Boston Harbor dressed as Native Americans. -
Intolerable Acts
There were five acts total passed by British Parliament and most made the colonists mad. -
Declaration of Independence
to declare that all men were equal and the only reason to have a government is to protect these basic human rights, which Thomas Jefferson lists as life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
