Laws passed by England to maintain control over colonial trade. The acts made colonist buy English goods and limited trade with other countries. -
Treaty of Paris of 1763
The document that ended the war between Britain and France over the Ohio River Valley. This treaty ended french power in north america and expanded British territory and increase British dept. -
The Proclamation Act of 1763
This was meant to keep the natives and colonist from fighting. It makes the colonist angry because the cannot go west past the Appalachian mountains. -
The Sugar Act of 1764
It required colonist to pay a tax of 6 pence. Most colonist worked around it and didn't pay. People tried to smuggle things so they didn't have to pay tax but if you got caught you had harsh punishment. -
The stamp Act of 1765
Required all colonist to purchase stamps, and stamp marks, from England on every piece of legal paper and other printed papers. -
First Continental Congress
voted to ban all trade with Britain until intolerable acts were repealed. battle of Lexington and Concord occurs -
Battle Of Bunker Hill
Following Lexington and Concord the minutemen then take a hill outside Boston called Bunker Hill. British eventually win, but not without terrible losses. -
Olive Branch Petition
Olives historically symbolize peace. After Lexington, Concord, and Bunker Hill, some Patriot leaders still considered themselves subjects of the king. Olive branch petition of July 1775.
