Laws passed by parliament that imposed on British trade-things like sugar, tobacco, cotton and wool.
At this time the dutch were carrying most of the trade and this threaten the English shipping, so this act required all imports to be bought from Britain or resold by Britain. -
French and Indian war ends
Ends with signing of the treaty of Paris. The war began overland religion and trade and the debt from this war will ultimately be the reason for all the taxes -
Stamp act
Taxed newspapers and pamphlets colonists felt they had no right to be taxed “no taxation without representation”
The colonists boycotted British goods and organized the sons of liberty and the daughters of liberty. Parliament ultimately repealed the tax. -
Boston massacre
Colonists were in opposition of acts passed by Parliament, they were protesting and was throwing stones at soldiers the British soldiers then shot and killed 5 people -
Tea act
Allowed the east India company exclusive rights to send its tea to the colonies and have a monopoly winch caused the colonists to protest and resulted in the Boston tea party -
Boston tea party
Colonists dressed as Indians and put tea in the harbor from 3 ships to protest the tax on tea. Winch caused the British parliament to pass laws to punish the colonists -
Intolerable acts
Series of 4 laws were passed by the British to punish the colonists for the protest, the Boston tea party, against the tea act. This caused outrage and a main reason for the American revolution. -
First continental congress
In reaction to the coercive acts, Representatives from 12 colonies gathered in Philadelphia to discuss how to respond to the British -
Second continental congress
Set up a continental army with George Washington in command. This was when they created the first US Constitution -
Lexington and concord
Colonist clashed with Britain and began the American revolution. This is the famous “shot heard round the world “ -
