Louisiana Founded
Louisiana was founded in 1682 by Robert de la Salle as an attempt to stop the Spanish from encroaching on the Gulf of Mexico region. This was similar to how, in the future, they established Detroit in the north for similar reasons. -

King William's War (The First French and Indian War)
Tension over land between the French and the English led them to go to war. The Indians come in as both the French and the English allied with Indian tribes (the Wabanaki and the Iroquois, respectively). The Iroquois had been fighting with the French over fur trade, where the French had been encroaching on. -

War of Jenkin's Ear
Started when a British captain, Jenkin, had his ear cut off by the Spanish after he had stollen from a Spanish ship (it should also be known that he admitted openly to being a smuggler). Britain saw this as an opportunity- if they won the war, they could have more trade in the Carribean. -
George Washington & Fort Necessity
George Washington was sent out to the Ohio Valley territory with 150 Virginia minutemen. They encountered the French 40 miles out from Fort Duquesne and fought, which led to the beginning of the conflict between first french and indian war. -

The French and Indian War was a dispute between the French and the English (both allied with Indians) over the Ohio Valley territory. -
Battle of Quebec
Under General James Wolfe the English beat the French in Quebec, the French stronghold in Canada. This was a turning point in the war because the British were then able to push the French out of Canada, and would be able to keep this territory after the war. -
Peace Treaty at Paris 1763
This peace treaty ended the French and Indian War. Out of this treaty, the British got all their won territory in Canada. France gave Louisiana to the Spanish, and gave Britain the east side of the Mississippi. France took major losses from this treaty. -
Detroit Founded
Detroit was founded by Antoine Cadillac, on behalf of the French, in order to stop the English from expanding into the Ohio Valley. -
Proclamation of 1763
The Proclamation of 1763 was made by the British government and said that colonists were not allowed to settle in the Ohio Valley territory. The colonists opposed this because they had just fought the French and Indian War to gain this land in order to move out West. The British saw this as a good decision because the French and Indian War had been over land disputes, and by preventing colonists from moving farther west they were making it so that the colonists would not start any more expensive -
Chief Pontiac Leads Revolt
Chief Pontiac of the Ottawa led French allied Indian tribes to attack the colonists, British (any whites) in the Ohio Valley. The brief but bloody campaign was stomped out by the whites, but showed the government they needed to put troops in the frontier. This was also the incident in which a commander had smallpox infested blankets to be distributed to the Indians.
