When the Great depression of America started, millions lost jobs. many went homeless, which was a very depressing time for America. this was right before the start of ww2. there was very little employment and very low gpd. -
Roosevelt makes war mobilization office
Roosevelt, kicked off the mobilization for war, starting mobilization before the official joined preparing. it attempted to control business pointing them towards making war material.
It eventually dissolved because it did not have enough power. -

this is the start of ww2, but not where american joined in. At this point, America was still to some degree mobilizing but not all in yet. -

great migration
due to the high demand for workers in the north, many people of color moved north. This was called the Second Great Migration, where 15m African Americans moved to work in factories. This also started black rights inside workplace. -
executive order 8802
the order that enforced fair defensive workforce employment. prohibiting emoplymenty based on race, gender, or national orgin. -
workers rights
in addition to women now in the workplace, order 8802 also increased all worker's rights. Now improving union rights, and increasing pay. This was a defining point because it was also a turning point where from now on workers had more rights. -
when America officially joined ww2
this was after the bombing of Pearl Harbor when America joined WW2. This was the turning point where Americans started mobilizing. and officially joined ww2. -
world moblization board
-In 1942, Roosevelt made a war mobilization board. it had more authorization than the war mobilization agencies.
-set up factory plants to make raw materials
-directed companies to make materials for war with money, buying weapons from companies
-made more weapons than all axis powers combned -
ford stops making civilian vehicles
-Ford stopped making cars and civilian vehicles and started making b-24s, following the flow of money fro the government.

women in workforce
in 1942 when all the men went to war, the women had to take their place. 1/3 of women worked, 3/4 of them were married, and 3/5's over 35. This was the defining start of women in the workforce. -

long lasting effects of women in the workforce
As WW2 ended and the men came back to war, the women stayed in the workplace. This is because they showed that women could work in the workforce. This had massive long-lasting effects and was the first step in the door for women to work in the workforce.
