    The Pequot War

    The Pequot War was war between the Pequot tribe and English colonists from Massachusetts. The reason for the Pequot war was the English wanted to destroy the fur trading between the Pequot people and the Dutch. About 600 to 700 natives were killed in this war and the rest were sold into slavery.
  • Indian Removal Act

    The Indian Removal Act was signed and put into process by Andrew Jackson. This gave the president the power to removed American Indians from their land and move them to land west of the Mississippi River. Many tribes tried resisting the act but all ended up being moved by the United States government.

    The Trail of Tears

    The Trail of Tears was president Andrew Jackson having the Cherokee people removed from Cherokee land. The Cherokee people were forced to give up all of their land west of Mississippi and were moved to Oklahoma. Many of the Cherokee people died on the way to Oklahoma from disease, starvation, or exhaustion.

    Semionle War

    The Seminole War happened because military forces wanted to remove Seminole people from Seminole reservation and they refused to leave. The U.S. government want to move the Seminole tribe to land west of the Mississippi River. Many U.S. soldiers killed in this war. The Seminoles were lead by their Chief named Osceola.
  • The Homestead Act

    The Homestead Act was put into place by President Abraham Lincoln and allowed Non American Indians to move westward and to live on American Indian owned land. This was the beginning of mass migration of settlers onto American Indian land.

    Dakota War of 1862

    The Dakota War was an armed battle between the U.S. Military and bands of Dakota. The reasons for this war was that the Dakota were unhappy with their peoples treatment by the U.S. government and they had to give up millions of acres to the government. The Dakota were then moved to small reservations in Minnesota.
  • The Indian Appropriations Act

    This act stated that no American Indian nation or tribe would be considered as its own independent nation by the U.S. government. The U.S. government put this act into place to weaken the strengthen that tribal leader had and try to erase the American Indian identity.
