If you go to the coast of the Piedmont you are sure to hear about the Hardaway. That is a site that Paleo-Indians were actually at in the late Paleo-Indian and Early Archaic periods.

    Archaic period’s start at about 8000 BC, and in North Carolina it lasts until 1000 BC.. They were nomadic hunters and gatherers. Also, They had no permanent villages. Archaeologist do say Paleo-Indians arrived in and lived in the Ice age. The Archaic-Indians were during the Holocene epoch and modern times.The Archaic had family groups called bands were of 25 to 100 people. Many wild plants and animals such as deer, turtles, and shellfish were hunted and gathered.

    The Woodland-Indians consisted of three different areas; Piedmont, Mountains and the Coastal Plains.They went from spears and created a bow and arrow.They had hunting camps or as bases for collecting plant foods. They also created goosefoot & Marsh elder.In the sometimes confusing way that archaeologists name things, they call Warren Wilson's early Woodland pottery Swannanoa ware. They also had similar pottery styles and other artifacts with the people from South Carolina.
