    The purpose of the Albany Congress was to try to secure the support and cooperation of the Iroquois in fighting the French, and to form a colonial alliance based on a design by Benjamin Franklin. The plan of union was passed unanimously
  • Stamp Act

    The law required the use of tax stamps on all legal documents, on certian business agreements and on newspapers.
    The rates were precieved as "severe". This started from Britians harsh tac and trade policies.
  • The Sugar Act

    The Sugar Act
    The Stamp Act was Parliament's first serious attempt to assert governmental authority over the colonies. Great Britain was faced with a massive national debt following the Seven Years War. English citizens in Britain were taxed at a rate that created a serious threat of revolt.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    The presence of British troops in the city of Boston was VERY unwelcome. The riot began when about 50 citizens attacked a British sentinel. A British officer called in additional soldiers, and these too were attacked, so the soldiers fired into the mob, killing 3 on the spot, and wounding 8 others, two of whom died later. The Botson Massacre led directly to the Royal Governor evacuating the occupying army from the town of Boston.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Governor Thomas Hutchinson allowed three ships carrying tea to enter Boston Harbor. Before the tax could be collected, Bostonians took action. Radical townspeople stormed the ships and tossed 342 chests of tea into the water. Disguised as Native Americans, the offenders could not be identified.
