  • Start of WW1

    The Great War started after the assassination Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria in 1914.
  • Lusitania Ship Wreck

    The sinking of the British Cruise Liner was struck by German ships in 1915. The Germans claimed the attacked was because of carried ammunition, at this time World War 1 had started and they saw this as a threat.
  • Start of the Great Migration

    The Great Northward Migration or Black Migration was the action of millions of black Americans moving out of the south to the north. They relocated out of rural towns to more urbanized areas.
  • First Congresswoman Elected

    Jeannette Rankin was the first woman to be elected in congress. Elected in November 1916, 4 years before the 19th amendment, she was a republican representative from Montana.
  • Lenin Leading Russian Revolution

    The Russian Revolution of 1917 was helped led by Vladimir Lenin. They were trying to overthrow the imperial government and put the Bolshevikeviks in power.
  • Selective Service Act

    President Wilson signed the Selective Service Act into law in 1917. This law required US men ages 21-30 to register for military service, at this time the law was very popular among young American men.
  • Espionage Act

    When the United States joined WW1 this law was passed almost immediately. The act made it illegal to interfere with US war efforts, like spreading false information or preventing enlistment.
  • Influenza Epidemic

    As one of the most severe pandemics it was caused by a virus and killed almost 100 million people at the outbreak. The epidemic spread world wide from 1918-1919.
  • Wilson’s 14 Points

    It was a proposal made by Wilson in a speech to congress as a proposal, with “14 points”, on how to end to WW1.
  • Sedition Act

    Congress passes the Sedition Act in order to help protect America’s participation in WW1. It was a test of the freedom of speeches by stating that to print, utter, or publish false accusations of the government was illegal.
  • End of WW1

    The had ended when Germany surrendered and remaining nations agreed to stop they continuation of the war. When fighting stopped peace negotiations were set and later Germany and allied nations signed the Treaty of Versailles.
  • Schenck v US

    In 1919 the US Supreme Court ruled that the freedom of speech stated in the 1st amendment would not apply in cases used to intend a harmful manner.
  • US Rejects Treaty of Versailles

    After WW1 the US rejects the Treaty of Versailles because of their objections to the League of Nations. It was signed by Germany and other allied nations.
  • Teapot Dome Scandal

    This scandal took place in the early 1920’s. It was a bribery scandal started off with oil leasing obtained corruptly. This scandal showed the corruption of President Hardings administration.
  • 19th Amendment

    This amendment was ratified in 1920. It allows voting in the US to not be denied by any person based on their sex, giving women the right to vote.
  • End of Wilsons Presidency

    After 2 terms as President of the United States Wilson retired as the 28th president of the United States
  • Lincoln Memorial Dedication

    Lincoln Memorial Dedication
    In 1922 the Chief Justice officiated the over the ceremony. It was built to honor former President Abraham Lincoln and was officially dedicated by 1922.

    First Time Magazine Published
    The first publication of Time magazine was in March of 1923. It first debuted in New York City and made it the first weekly news magazine in the United States.
  • Calvin Coolidge becomes President

    Calvin Coolidge becomes President
    After the death of President Harding, Vice President Calvin Coolidge becomes president. He was the 30th president of the United States.

    Nellie Taylor Ross become the first woman governor in the United States in the state of Wyoming.
