What- The French and Indian War, It was a war between France and Great Britain.

Why-If the war didn't happen, then the colonies would belong to France, and might not have rebelled
How-The French settled in later day Canada, while Great Britain settled in the 13 colonies. While they were each trying to expand, they had disputes over land which led to war. -
Boston Tea Party
Who- American Colonists, British Ships
What- The colonists protested outragous British tea taxes by dumping it in the harbor
When- December 16, 1773
Where- Boston, MA
Why- It shows the pure amount of outrage that the colonists are feeling towards Britain for the insane taxes
How- After learning that Britian taxes the tea exponentioally, angry colonists took the tea off of boats and dumped them in the harbor in protest -
First Continental Congress meets in Philidelphia
Who- Patrick Henry, George Washington, John Adams, John Jay
What- The First Continental Congress, a meeting with delegates from all 13 colonies
When- September 5, 1774
Where-Philadelphia
Why- It was the first act of united rebellion against the British taxes and acts
How-The thirteen colonies sent representatives to debate how to set up colonial resistance against the parliament's coercive acts. At the end of the debate, they decided to stay loyal to Britain, but disputed their right to tax them -
Declaration of Independence signed
Who- John Hancock, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams. George Washington
What- A declaration of independence from Great Britain was signed by prominent various figures of the colonies.
When- July 4th, 1776
Where- Philidelphia, Pennsylvania
Why- This moment was the day the U.S. was born, it's importance is exponentially significant.
How- Many significant leaders throughout the colonies met and signed a list of grievances against the king and parliament of Great Britain. Thus declaring our independence -
Constitution Ratified
Who-Patrick Henry, Samuel Adams, Alexander Hamilton
What-The Colonies ratified the constitution and created a stronger society.
When-June 21, 1788
Where- New Hampshire was the last state to ratify it.
Why-The Constitution helped to govern the U.S. and is one of the most important documents in U.S. History.
How- In order to fix the problems under the articles of Confederation, the Constitution was made. But 9/13 states had to ratify it for it to be implemented. This happened on June 21, 1788. -

Why- The first president of the United States was very important to the history of America, so it's a prime choice for a timeline
How- George was a very valuable leader in the war against the British. He was the commanding general, and he was a great asset, it only makes sense that they would elect him as leader of their new country -
Louisiana Purchase Treaty
Who-Thomas Jefferson, Napolean Bonaparte,
What- France sold 828,000,000 square miles to the United States for $15 million
When- 1803
Where- From the Mississippi River to the rocky mountains.
Why- The U.S. expanding was crucial to increasing our size and potential as a country
How- Thomas Jefferson decided to bargain France for control of the Mississippi River, but when pushed a little, got the deal of a lifetime in the Louisiana Purchase -
War of 1812
Who- John Armstrong, James Madison, Tecumseh, Andrew Jackson
What-The War of 1812 happened when President James Madison declared war on Britain for various reasons.
When- 1812-1815
Where- Washington, D.C, Detroit, Canada
Why- The war of 1812 had effects that impacted young America greatly
How- The British cut off supplies from the U.S. and forced American seamen to serve on British Vessels. This angered America so much that we decided to got to war. -
Nat Turner's Slave Rebellion
Who- Nat Turner
What- Nat led the first successful slave revolt.
When-August 1831
Where- Southhampton County, Virginia
Why-It showed the first sign of growing unrest and the feelings toward slavery at the time
How- Nat Turner led a slave rebellion in which rebel slaves killed 55-65 people, most for being white. After two months, those who participated were executed, including Turnr. -
Texan Revolution
Who- Santa Anna, Sam Houston, James Bowie, David Crockett
What- Texas was tired of being with Mexico, so they sought and fought for independence
When- 1835- 1836
Where- Texas, The Alamo, San Antonio
Why- Texas became a state through this war and is part of our history
How- The American settlers and Tejans were upset with Mexico and wanted to become independent. However, Mexico was not okay with that, and started to attack them. This started the Texan revolution. -
The Trail of Tears
Who- Cherokee, Andrew Jackson, Choctaw, Creek
What- Native Americans were mass relocated to settlements, in a long, difficult, journey
When- 1838-1850
Where- South Eastern U.S.
Why- This is a disturbing part of U.S. history, but it is sometimes forgotten and is important
How- Many whites in the south were intimidated by the Native Americans, so Andrew Jackson decided to move them all away to the west. This Journey was difficult, and sometimes deadly, hence why it's known as the trail of tears. -
The Mexican-American War
Who- James K Polk, Zachery Taylor
What- The U.S. and Mexico went to war over the annexation of Mexico
When- April 1846-February 1848
Where- Texas and Mexico
Why- The war was met with some controversy by the abolitionists and decided the borders of the U.S.
How- The U.S. wanted to annex Texas from Mexico, but there were disputes as to what was recognised as Texas. Once there was American blood spilled, We declared war -
Gold discovery
Who- James Marshall
What- Discovered gold in California
When- 1848
Where- Coloma, California
Why- The economy and mass migration due to this discovery played a huge role in America.
How- After gold was discovered, people from every state migrated west in order to strike it big with gold. They established town, cities, and states just by moving out west, looking for gold. -
The Seneca Falls Convention
Who- Susan B. Anthony, Lucretia Mott, Elizabeth Stanton
What- Gathered at Seneca Falls to discuss women's rights and Abolitionism.
When-July 19-20, 1848
Where- Seneca Falls, New York
Why- The women's rights movement had it's starting point here and was the first convention of the sort
How- Lucretia Mott and Elizabeth Stanton had started a convention to discuss the rights of women in order to change society. -
Civil War
Who- Abraham Lincoln, Robert E Lee
What- The South succeeded from the North and tried to make their own country, but the North went to war to stop them
When- 1861-65
Where- Southern States, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, Tennesee
Why- This war was the bloodiest and could've changed the tides of our country forever if the South had succeeded.
How- The South was put up with the North's anti-slavery attitude and decided to secede from the U.S. to make their own Country. This caused the U.S. to stop them -
Battle of Gettysburg
Who- George Meade, Robert E. Lee
What- Union and Confederate soldiers fought in the costliest land battle of the civil war.
When- July 1-3, 1863
Where- Gettysburg, Pennsylvania
Why- This battle represented the turning point of the civil war and will live as the deadliest battle of the war as well.
How- Lee tried to invade the North after a Confederate victory. However, the Union soldiers held them off and were able to force them to retreat after a standstill. -
Lincoln's Assassination
Who- Abraham Lincoln, John Wilks Booth
What- Lincoln was assassinated in Ford's theater during a play
When- April 14, 1865
Where- Peterson House, Washington D.C.
Why- Lincon had done a great deal for the country and his assassination was mourned by the northern states heavily
How- While Lincoln was watching a play, Booth snuck up behind him and shot him with a pistol. He ran away but was caught shortly after. One of America's best leaders was killed before their eyes -
The first Transcontinental railroad is complete
Who- Railroad workers
What- The first railroad that went across the country was complete
When- May 10, 1869
Where- Across the U.S.
Why- The railroad was a step up in technology, nobody could ever dream of traveling across the country at that rate back then.
How- The last railroad spike was driven in, and that signalled the completion of the first transcontinetal railroad. Now people were able to travel and send supplies, across the nation. -
Great Chicago Fire
Who- Patrick and Catherine O'Leary
What- A cow caused a giant fire in Chicago which destroyed 3.3 sq miles of land and killed more than 300 people
When- 1871
Where- Chicago, Illinois
Why- This was an event remembered in infamy and a great disaster
How- Supposedly, a cow had passed gas and made a barn explode with the combination of methane and a lantern. This fire spread out to destroy 3.3 sq miiles of land and was a great tragedy. -
The Great Sioux War
Who- The Cheyenne, Lakota people, The U.S. Army
What- It was a series of battles and negotiations between the United States, Lakota Sioux, and Northern Cheyenne
When- 1876
Where- Montana Territory, Dakota Territory
Why- The native Americans are a big part of American History and what happened to them was tragic
How- The U.S. Government wanted to obtain ownership of the Black Hills, but this was not ok with the Natives in that area. They wanted to fight for their land no matter what.
