    Jackie Robinson

    Jackie Robinson
    Jackie Robinson was a major part in The U.S.'s history because of him being the first Black MLB player ever. Jackie was a very good player for The Dodgers and showed the world that blacks can be just as good as whites if not better. He had problems in his life getting to games and home because of people hating him for being black but after he was retired and America was a lot less racist, he had all the respect in the world. He showed the world what they could do and proved them wrong.

    Baby Boom

    A group of people born after WW2 was over from the 40s-60s. They are called "Baby Boomers" because they were all born around the same time and there was a lot of them born. It was caused because of the men finally returning home from war and ready to start a new family with their wives and home and start the "American Dream".

    Truman Doctrine
    The Truman Doctrine provided that The United States would provide political, military and economic assistance to all democratic nations that were threatened by authoritarian forces. It helped a lot with the U.S. Foreign policy. The Truman Doctrine was created by President Harry S. Truman in 1947. It was also made to no longer provide military and economic assistance to the Greek Government in its civil war against the Greek Communist Party.

    Medicare
    In 1966, Medicare was made by President Eisenhower to help all U.S. citizens 65 or older (who have worked in the system) with health issues. It is funded by payroll taxes, premiums and surtaxes from beneficiaries, and general revenue. It also provides health insurance to younger people with some disabilities status as determined by the Social Security Administration.

    Robert F. Kennedy Assassination
    The Democratic Presidential Candidate Robert F. Kennedy was shot in L.A. at The Ambassador Hotel. Sirhan Sirhan was convicted of his murder and sentenced to death in 1969. The shooting was recorded on audio tape by a freelance newspaper reporter, and the aftermath was captured on film. Kennedy did have a real chance to win that presidential election but no one will know for sure. Hubert Humphrey later went on to win the Democratic nomination but eventually lost to Richard Nixon, a Republican.

    Gerald Ford
    The fallowing President after Richard Nixon's resignation. He was The 38th President of The United States. He really did not do a lot while in office but nothing bad either. He tried to get people to forgive Richard Nixon for his presidency and most people didn't like that.

    Ronald Reagan was The 40th United States President. Most popular for his "Reaganomics" and his war on drugs. He also had an assassination attempt but survived later in the hospital. When he was in office he tried to lower taxes to grow the government. When he was running his big idea was "Morning in America" like as if he were elected it would be a new day for new things to come and make things better.

    Space Shuttle Challenger
    A space shuttle that was made as a test program for the space shuttle program, The shuttle was built by Rockwell International's Space Transportation Systems Division in Downey, California. It launched and landed nine times before breaking apart 73 seconds into its tenth mission, resulting in the death of 7 crew members and a teacher.

    George H.W. Bush was the 41st President of The U.S. and also Vice President of the United States after. Had to deal with 9/11 and is mostly remembered for how he handled it and what he did afterwards. He was mostly seen as an okay president because of him sending troops to Afghanistan and decisions he made after 9/11.

    Hurricane Katrina
    A very very deadly hurricane that ruined thousands of homes and lives. One of the five deadliest hurricanes ever. It cost the U.S. billions of dollars to repair the damage around Florida where it hit. It cost approximately $108 billion and at least 1,245 people were dead.

    Barack Obama being elected President was a major step for The United States having a non-white president for the first time. Also, The inauguration, which set a record attendance for any event held in Washington, D.C., marked the commencement of the first four-year term of Barack Obama as President and Joe Biden as Vice President. It was also among the most-observed events ever by the global audience.

    Cold War
    A period of time when no one was fighting but tension was high and war could break out any second between the East and West. The sides of the war were the the east and the west and the east had The Soviet Union and the west had The United States and its NATO partners. The goal was simple for both sides, the east wanted to spread communist government style and the east wanted to stop the spread so that they could keep their normal government style.
