John F. Kennedy elected president

Bay of Pigs invasion
On April 17, 1961 rebel troops landed at the Bay of Pigs. This attack had been approved by President Kennedy however the troops were poorly equipped and within two day Castro's army had captured them. (Experience History Volume 2: since 1865, pgs. 794). -
Cuban missile crisis
October 14, 1962 dated the beginning of the Cuban missile crisis. Kennedy had made it clear that the United States would not allow missiles to be placed in Cuba. Yet, the Soviet Union built a secret nuclear base there. When Kennedy found out he was furious; however, because of mutally assured destruction neither country used their weapons (Experience History Volume 2: since 1865, pgs. 795). -
J.F.K. assasinated
President John F. Kennedy was assasinated on November 22, 1963 in Dallas, Texas by Lee Harvey Oswald. (Experience History Volume 2: since 1865, pgs. 810). -
Civil Rights Act passed
The Civil Rights Act was passed of July 2, 1964 by President Johnson. It outlawed discrimination for public accomodations and gave the attorney general the power to desegregate public facilities.(Experience History Volume 2: since 1865, pgs. 810). -
Tet Offensive
The Tet Offensive was when the Vietcong launched a series of attacks on villages during the Vietnamese New Year. It was a strategic victory for North Vietnam yet the U.S. and South Vietnamese troops fended off most of the attacks. (Experience History Volume 2: since 1865, pgs. 835). -
Martin Luther King Jr. assasinated
On April 4, 1968 Martin Luther King Jr. was assasinated in Memphis, Tn by James Earl Ray. (Experience History Volume 2: since 1865, pgs. 836).
