Ida B. Wells crusades against Lynchings
she was a former school teacher in Memphis. Three of her friends were murdered by Memphis mob after they defended themselves against a mob trying to attack and destroy their store. Ida began a newspaper attacking lynchings and racism. Her newspaper store was burned and she was forced to flee to the north and she started an anti-lynching compaign. -

The Maine ship
The Maine was destroyed and Spain was accused by the USA of that explosion. The congress declared a war on Spain.
