    Tammany Hall also known as the Society of St. Tammany, the Sons of St. Tammany, or the Columbian Order, was a New York City political organization in 1786. It was a democratic party political machine, its major role was played in New York State and New York City politics and helping immigrants.

    A belief of doctrine held in the middle to last part of the 19th century. It was important because it enhanced political, social and economical influences.

    Woodrow Wilson was the United States 28th President. He was born in 1856, and made office in 1913 until 1921. He was also a leader of the Progressive Movement, also he was the Governer of New Jearsy from 1911 to 1913. He was a Democrat.

    Teddy Roosevelt, 1858, he was the 26th president from 1901 to 1909. He was well known for his exuberent personality, along with range of interest and acheivments. He was the leader of the Republican Party, he held offices in city, state, and federal levels. Also he founded the Progressive Party of 1912.

    Franz Ferdinand

    Franz Ferdinand was born in Graz Australia (1863), as a Austo-Hungarian Empire Heir. He was assassinated on June 28th 1914 which sparked up the first world war. He became the heir because of the Emperor's son's death in 1889, and his own fathers death in 1896. He was considered a prideful and mistrusting man.

    Upton Sinclair

    Upton Sinclair, born in 1878. His alcoholic father moved the family from Baltimore to New York. His family was poor but he spent most of his time with his rich grandparents, seeing these major differences he became a socialist. He was a a famous socialist writer, Frank Norris was a major reason for his development as a writter.

    (1890's-1920's) A time of Social Activism and political reform flourished. A main goal of the Progressive movement was to 'purify the government' they tried to rid the government of corruption. They did this by trying to expose and undercut political boss's and machines.

    Spanish-American War was in 1898 between the Untied States and Spain. Which effectivly was the result of American intervention with the Cuban War of Independence. Revolts against Spanish rule had been endemic for decades in Cuba and were closely watched by the Americans.

    Muckrakers
    Muckrakers closely related with reformed-oriented journalists who wrote for big name magazines, and continued with investigative journalism. Mostly after 1900 to WW1.

    1914-1918, The Central Powers were made up of the Germans, Austro-Hungarians, The Ottoman Empire, and the Kingdom of Bulgaria, (This was during WW1). They fought against the Allied Powers.

    (July 28th 1914 to November 11th 1918) World War 1 was orginaly called World war or The Great War, from its occurrence until 1939. It envoled the Worlds Great Powers. They were assembled in two different sides The Allies (Triple Entente of Britain, France, and Russia) and the Central Powers (Centered around Triple Alliance of Germany, Austria-Hungary and Italy). This war had 70 Million+ of military personnel, and 60 million Europeans.

    Zimmerman Note a diplomatic from the German empire to Mexico proposing a war against the United states in 1917. It was caught by the British before it reached Mexico. It was a coded telegram, dispatched the the foreign secretary Aurthur Zimmerman. This caused americans to become angry and led to the U.S declaration of war.

    Treaty of Versailles
    Treaty of Versailles was one of many peace treaties after WW1, it was signed on June 28th 1919. It ended the state war between between Germany and the Allied Powers. It took six months of negotiating at the Paris Peace Conference.

    Prohibition of alcohol happened in the United States in 1920 to 1933. After several years bootlegging became widespread, and organized crime took control of the alcohol distribution.
  • Teapot Dome Scandal

    Teapot Dome Scandal
    Teapot Dome Scandal was a bribery incident in 1922-1923. During the administration of President Harding, Secretarty Albert B. Fall leased Navy Petroleum reserves at the Teapot Dome and two other locations to private oil companies at low rates without a competitive bidding (It was before the Watergate Scandal).

    a policy or doctrine to isolate a certain Country. This is important because, in isolation you have less chance for war. 1930's
  • Hawley-Smoot Tariff Act

    Hawley-Smoot Tariff Act
    Hawley-Smoot Tariff Act happened in June 1930, It raised US Tariffs to high levels in history. The Tariff's act's original intention behind the legistlation was to increase protection towards domestic farmers agains foreign agricultural imports that the US was recieveing.

    People who were apposed to the Axis Powers during the WW2 (1939-1945) The former people who were in the Axis Power and helped the Allied Powers were NOT considered apart of Allied Powers.
  • Robber Barons

    Robber Barons
    Robber Barons was a US Political and Economic Commentator Matthew Josephson, in 1934, Also called the Economic Princes. He wanted people to look back to their Euorpean History classes. When their wealth was not in their own creation, but was more like a levi of tax.
  • Militarism:

    a strong military, spirit or policy. A strong policy or spirit is always good for the military, and a strong military helps in a time of war or strife.
