  • Jamestown Virginia

    The Jamestown colony was the first successful and permanent colony in America
  • First Cash Crop in the Colonies

    First cash crop of America was tobacco. This greatly influenced the expansion of the colonies as investors seeking to claim the profit from the tobacco rushed to buy up the land.
  • Slaves brought to the colonies for the first time

    the first African slaves arrive in Jamestown. the Africans were kidnapped by the Portuguese slave traders and bought over with the residents of Jamestown across the Atlantic.
  • Pilgrims land at Plymouth

    after 60 days at sea on the Atlantic, the pilgrims arrive at Plymouth, Massachusetts.
  • Jamestown Massacre

    Indians came bearing gifts of meat, fruit, and other tradable items, but later the Indians attacked the settlers of Jamestown. They killed women, children, men, and servants, which totaled up to 347 residents. The Native Americans came with gifts and supplies to trade with the colonists, but moments after took any weapon they found around them and killed a total of 347 colonists.
  • Massachusetts bay colony established

    the Massachusetts Bay colony founded by John Winthrop was established in 1630 at Salem Massachusetts.
  • Province of Maryland founded

    In 1632 George Calvert Founded the Province of Maryland.
  • Pequot War

    John Endicott assembled 90 to hunt down the Pequot Island Tribe and asked for them to surrender after the two parties had been fighting for control over the surrounding area of the Colonists. Endicott killed the whole island tribe and in retaliation for the attack the rest of the tribe attacks Fort Saybrook.
  • Bacon's Rebellion

    High taxes, low prices for tobacco, and resentment against special privileges given to those close to the governor caused colonists in Virginia to revolt against the governor and resulted in the governor being called back to England.
  • Salem Witch Trials

    The Salem witch trials were a series of hearings and prosecutions of people accused of witchcraft in colonial America.
  • Tuscarora Indian War

    The Tuscarora Indian War was the result of slave traders taking native Americans into slavery which caused the Native American tribe to counterattack. The war killed hundreds of the colonist in North Carolina as well as hundreds of Native Americans. even after the war tension was still high between the two parties for many years after the end of the war.
  • Jonathan Edwards begins preaching sermons, beginning the Great Awakening

    Jonathan Edwards became one of the founding members of the Great Awakening from his church in Northampton, Massachusetts. This movement would cause many colonists to begin converting to Christianity.
  • The French and Indian War

    The French and Indian war was a conflict between the French and British forces with each having different Native American tribes to support them. it was fought along the current day northeast region of the United States, Canada border. It began with a land dispute over the Ohio river valley between the french and the colonists.
  • Currency Act passed

    British Parliament passed the Currency Act that regulated American paper money in order to protect British merchants from the depreciated American paper money.
  • The Sugar Act

    British parliament put a tax on sugar and molasses from non-English merchants in order to raise more funding for the crown and the British government.
  • Quartering Act

    An act that forced the American colonists to provided housing and food for British troops. this caused a great deal of uproar from the colonists angry at all the taxes and laws imposed by the British Government.
  • The Boston Massacre

    A mob of colonists began attacking a group of British soldiers on the night of March 5, 1770, resulting in the soldiers shooting the colonists. Five died and the event became a source of propaganda supporting independence from Britain.
  • The Boston Tea Party

    Protesting British taxation on tea, the Sons of Liberty, disguised as Native Americans, boarded three ships in the Boston Harbor and dumped 342 chests of tea into the sea.
  • The Battles of Lexington and Concord

    The Battles of Lexington and Concord were the first battles in the Revolutionary war.
  • Declaration of Independence

    American Colonists, tired of the British imposing unjust taxes and laws, decided to make a committee to draft the declaration of Independence and on July 4th it was approved and published across north america.
  • General Cornwallis surrenders at Yorktown

    The colonists and the French attacked the British on both land and sea. As the battle rages more British territory falls under the control of the colonists and French, forcing British General Cornwallis to surrender, forcing the last of the British military forces back to Britain ending the war.
  • George Washington is elected as first president

    George Washington served two terms from 1789 to 1797. During his presidency, he enacted upon a foreign policy of neutrality, at least until the United States could grow stronger. throughout his time as president, he kept the united states neutral in foreign affairs until the United States had a more powerful military and was unlikely to be overrun.
  • Thomas Jefferson elected as third president

    during his two term presidency, he removed the tax on whiskey and reduced the military budget and spending. this resulted in the national debt decreasing by 33%.
  • Louisiana Purchase

    A treaty was made between Thomas Jefferson and France for the Louisiana territory starting from the Missippi river to the Rocky Mountains and the Canadian and Mexican border to the North and South. the purchase doubled the total land of the United States.
  • Lewis and Clark expedition

    the Lews and Clark expedition was a three-year expedition by Lewis and Clarks starting in St. Louis and ending in Oregon. its purpose was to explore the new lands and find routes to the west coast obtained through the Louisiana Purchase.
  • Spain ceded Florida to US

    Spain could no longer afford to send troops and colonists to Florida so they decided to ceded Florida to the United States.
  • Trail of Tears

    the Trail of Tears was the removal of about 60,000 native Americans from the southeastern united states due to the Indian removal act. the Native Americans faced terrible conditions on their journey west and more than half of them died on the long journey.
  • Abraham elected as the 16th president

    Abraham Lincoln served one term from 1861 to 1865. He was a strong anti-slavery advocate and brought about the emancipation proclamation that made slavery illegal in the united states and helped free slaves in the Confederacy.
  • Emancipation Proclamation

    The Emancipation Proclamation was given by Abraham lincoln stating that all Slaves in the Confederate states should be freed.
  • Lincoln is assassinated

    In Fords Theater Abraham Lincoln was assassinated by the actor John Wilkes Booth.
  • Samuel Morse invents the telegraph

    the telegraph was used to send messages across America through telegraph lines spanning the united states allowing for information to travel across the country faster than ever before.
