    This was the first shot to start the American Revolution. Nobody knows who fired it. A large battle took place in nearby Concord. 400 minutemen fought the British, killing three of them.

    British soldiers took position around the base of Breeds hill. Wearing red coats, they marched straight up the hill. Their firt attempt failed, so did their second, but the third succeded only because the Americans ran out of ammunition.

    Washington led 2,400 men across the river in small boats. Soldiers huddled in the small boats as the spray from the river froze hit their faces. When they got across the river, the soldiers mmarched in the swirling snow. To keep their feet from freezing, the soldiers bound them in rags.
