Magna Carta
The Magna Carta was a document that King John of England was forced to sign that basically limited the power of the King, giving his subjects a bit more rights. -
Petition of rights
Basicly, this gave british people some law on their side. they had to be proven guilty and the king couldnt over tax things. -
English bill of rights
passed by parliament and agreed by william and mary in 1689. it prevented abuse of power by english monarchs. basis for much of america today, -
Albany Plan of Union
The Albany Plan of Union was a proposal to unify the thirteen colonies. -
Boston Massacre
British soldiers killed a total of 5 men and injured 6 more. colonist were insulting the soldiers and throwing rocks at them so the british soldiers just fired back. -
Boston Tea Party
The Boston Tea Party was an event in which the Sons of Liberty were protesting against the British government by throwing their tea into the harbour. -
First Continental Congress
A congress of twelve delegates from each of the colonies. -
Second continental congress
succeded the first continental congress. they helped managed the war efferts agenst the british. -
Declaration of Independece
Document we sent to britian to basicly tell them were not with them anymore, we are our own country. -
Articles of Confederation
The Articles of Confederation were sort of a predecessor to our federal governent. They were documents that almost unified the individual colonies. -
Shay's Rebellion
A rebellion named after Daniel Shays, one of the rebellion's leaders. It was started because of economic depression, lack of valid currency, and harsh government policies. -
Philadelphia Convention
The Philadelphia Convention was used to address problems the united states were having. The united states was living under the articles of confederation following independence between britian. -
Virginia Plan
This was a plan drafted by James Madison that set up a bicameral legislative system. -
New Jersey Plan
was created in responce to the virgina plan for two houses of congress. it also amended the articles of confederation.
