The Trent Affair
On November 8, 1861, Charles Wikes - a US Navy Officer - captured two Confederate envoys from the British mail ship. This ship is called Trent. Because of his action, Great Britain accused the United States of violating British neutrality. This created a diplomatic crisis between the US and Great Britain during the Civil War
