    This the first gun that we know how it works and it's name.It's also the first device or "lock that can mechanically fire a gun.Powder is stored in a "flash pan" and is then fired by a wick,or match, in a movable clamp.

  • The flintlock

    This device solved a very long problem.At some point in the 1500s, a lid was added to the flash pan design. To show or protect the powder, the lid had to be moved manually.This caused stress while firing and took too much work to add or protect the powder.The flintlock solved this by being designed to push back the lid and spark a flint at the same hence why it's called the flintlock.

    A man named Samuel Colt made a large production of revolvers.Colt was the first person to apply Industrial Age machining tools into play.The mass production made the guns more affordable.The Colt was solider's and frontiermen's most favorite firearm during that time because of it's reliablity and precise accuracy.

    These Spencer repeating guns were introduced at the start of the Civil War.It was techincally advanced since it could fire 7 shots in 15 seconds.The Army didn't want any of these thought because they feared that the soldiers would fire more often,needing more ammo,and overtax the supply system.But in 1863,President Lincoln tested the Spencer.He approved it and led the purchase of 107,372 Spencer repeating carbines and rifles,and then became the main repeating gun of the Civil War.

    These rifles were affordable and were produced alot,it then became the generic rifle.This rifle was very powerful and was titled,"the gun that won the West."

    The first automatic pistol was created by Joseph Laumann in 1892. But the Borchardt pistol of 1893 was the first automatic with a separate magazine in the grip which then became the main feature of this type of firearm.More models of these types came out rapidly and by the end of the century, automatics were established.
