Beginning of the War of 1812
Known as the "Second War for Independence", this war was fought against the British due to their snatching of Amerian sailors off of ships and forcing them to serve in the British Navy. This practice was called impressment. Americans were angered by this and called for a decaliration of war which they recieved on this date. -
Treaty of Ghent
The Treaty of Ghent would be the treaty that ended the War of 1812. It restored the seperation of the two nations once more. No territory or people changed hands in this treaty. It did not beome official until ratified by the US Senate in February of 1815. -
Monroe Doctrine
This Doctrine states that any other European attempt to settle the Americas would be seen as an act of agression and will be met with war.
